Default Oil in downpipe....Heerrreee weee gooo..

Not even tuned yet and I got **** happening. Long story short, I start the car up and start driving. Sitting at a stop sign and I notice a **** pile of smoke. I pull into the shop thats suppose to install my exhaust & gears tomorrow. We get the car up on the lift and theres oil everywhere including inside the driver side down pipe. The passenger side looks perfect. I take it a turbo seal went to ****??? What would cause this? I havent even taking the new motor over 2500rpm. Could I have something hooked up wrong? I can I avoid this from happening again.

Notes: about 2000 miles on turbo, running a scavenge pump, journal type bearing turbo

thanks

Both turbos are being fed the same amount of oil (same restrictors)? Then, yup! One of the turbos took a dump!

im not using a restrictor at all. I have it T'd above the oil filter and each turbo got their own feed lines.

Im just wondering what the hell could cause this out of nowhere???

not running a restrictor on the turbos can sometimes be a problem...too much oil in the turbo and not able to flow it back which puts pressure on the seals and they pop.

The seal could be gone.Pull your MAF pipe and see how much play your turbo shaft has horizontally. If there is any more then say .010 the seal and bearing are gone. Also check to see there is no restriction in your oil drain back pipe.Aftermarket[ pipes that are not stock some times are kinked which will cause lots of smoke.
Good luck.

Your running a scavenger pump on a front mount Dam! No pun intended just a first for me. How big is your drain line? I have learn bigger is better on that side. Oh check for shaft play you should have a tiny bit and make sure there is no rubbin on the housing.

Before today, the turbos spun perfect. very smooth. no play. The car is at the shop getting a exhaust & gears installed.

here is a picture of how my return line does go "uphill" to the fitting coming out of the timing cover. Should I be concerned of how the oil has to travel up into the timing cover?

Also, should I install a restrictor before I just remove the turbo and send it out to get rebuilt??

Scavenger pump on a front-mount here too.

Ew..sorry for the bad luck man.

You haven't taken the new motor over 2500 rpm? How in the world do you expect the rings to seat?? I've taken my car out twice on the new motor/setup and have all of 15 miles on it and its seen idle to 4000 at least a half a dozen times on 2 drives. Varying engine RPM helps the rings to bite the cylinder walls and become better 'seated'. Something to consider...

Haha..I don't mean rip it up full throttle to 4K! I meant shift it manually and take the revs up higher. You're not gonna see any boost under part throttle in those RPMs.

Before thinking turbo seals, I'd look at the oil drain back system...

when using pumps, normally they work best if there is a reservoir, downhill of the turbos where some oil can collect and de-foam with an outlet from that to the pump before it starts going uphill.

A buddy of mine was getting oil in his DP, and it turned out to be a pinched return line. Hasn't had a problem since.

guys, is it normal to have some oil in the pipes going from the compressor side of the turbo into the intercooler when going through this issue?

also, I can see oil dripping out of the turbine side, after I redo my lines, should I have the turbos cleaned out?
