D1SC head unit not as loud as I was hoping for.
I upgraded to the D1SC head unit from the P1SC for my C6 kit because I was told it was a much better unit and it was only a $200 upgrade.
I requested that the unit itself be loud and I had one Procharger salesman state that the fins can be curved to make it louder, then another salesman say that they test a batch of them and if a customer requests a loud unit, they pick out the loudest one, supplying it in their kit.
Anyhow, when I initially start the car, it makes the whistle, but after the rpms settle, the whistle goes away. I'm kind of disappointed because I wanted the whistle to be really loud.
Another thing that a salesperson from Procharger told me is that they were in the works of redesigning the head unit to make them quiet. I'm wondering if they already implemented this into my head unit.

Fireball, hah, yeah right. I don't need a new head unit any time soon.
bluehawk2, I think the pulley is a 4.50", at least that's what's stamped on it. So are you saying the bigger the pulley, the louder?
I noticed that if I bring up the rpms just a little bit, the whistle comes back. Also, if I lightly rev the engine, it will make the whistle ever so slightly.

I haven't driven the car yet, but I don't expect to make much noise at all if any while accelerating. I was hoping for a loud whistle at idle, but nothing.
Which head unit would I have to upgrade to in order to get the whistle I want, yet still be safe for a stock LS2 longblock?

My D1 was pretty much silent, I think people confuse the sound of the head unit with the sound of the bpv. People knew I had a supercharger as soon as the heard my car because of the bpv. It's not like a bov, it releases the extra air the blower is pushing at all times until you get into boost and it closes. I thought that was explained to you in your other thread. That's why superchargers should have a bpv and not a bov, the bov stays closed at idle and puts added stress on the head unit. When you use a bpv the head unit can spin without resistance because the extra air it's pushing gets released through the bpv and that's where all the noise is coming from on most procharger set-ups. If you have the bpv open to atmosphere, you can hear it over the exhaust at idle. Depending on which one you get, it can be very loud.

Flat out, most of the "whine" is from the step drive. If they're cutting the gears differently, there's not much you can do about that... NOW, you WILL get more "whirring or whistle" with a race bypass or bypass vented to the atmosphere and the closer you move the bypass to the head unit, the more noticable it will be... My old D1SC (made in 2002) could be heard DISTINCTLY with the stock bypass routed back into the cold side, air cleaner on and uncorked exhaust... Hell, you could hear it from BEHIND the car.

I've heard a lot of loud D1SC's in my day, call them up or PM ponyhunter (sp?) and see if you can swap it. You could just put a really big sticker on your car that would net you the same look at me look at me effect that you are looking for.

I'm not sure if you want to remove the stock filter, I would think they put it on ther for a reason, possibly it pulls air in sometimes? I wouldn't of bought the kit though, better to just part it together yourself so you get the good stuff the first time around.
Closer to the head unit means closer to the source of the sound means louder.
routed back to the cold side means just that, the air that gets released is routed back to the intake side of the blower. It makes it not so loud.
If you want it loud, ditch the stock bpv, put on a large bpv and vent it to the atmosphere, meaning it doesn't get routed back to the intake side of the blower, it just releases the air right at the bpv and has no filter so you get the most sound out of it. If you want it even louder put the bpv right after the blower but that's not the ideal place for it.
