Default Alternator Relocation Bracket That works?

Looking for a relocation bracket that works. Tired of running 5 rib belts, and destroying 6 rib belts.

Speed Inc has a setup but it requires you to use their own alternator. 450 dollar setup!

If anyone is making some that are tested before shipment. PM me.

idk, I emailed Larry and waiting to hear back from him. Hoping he can give me a good price so I can never worry about this alternator bracket again.

On a side note, I was messing around with the car today because I was so pist off at it lol!

It seems like the belt tensior stick out farther with the smokinhawk bracket.

If you notice how he made the bracket, the tensioner bolts onto that so it sticks out about a CM more then normal.

I grinded my tensior down today, and its perfectly level now with the crank pulley.

Problem is i snapped a bolt in the bracket now, so I need to have the machine shop at my work cut off the old nut, and weld a new one on.

Here are a few pics of the stock tensior. See how it is sticking too far out?

Grinded down the stock tensioner

Lines up way better now.

By grinding down the stock tensioner, i was able to have it sit how it used to when stock.

Going to see if the machine shop guys can weld on the new nut, then ill try and mess with it some more. Even if it doesnt work, its an excuse for me to do stuff with my car, as there is nothing left to do but drive it, and I cant do that until the belt issue gets resolved.

I had the same problem with the tensioner on the smokin hawk bracket...and I did the same fix you did. Grinding it down worked wonders...but the bracket itself was always a little wobbly as in when there was a lot of tension on it, and the belt was spinning high RPMs, the whole bracket would sway forward and back a bit...kind of scary.

I just really want a nice SOLID thick alternator bracket like some of the guys here who fabricate can make for their own cars...I want one though, just like you do :'(

i had issues with keeping a belt on my car with an aftermarket high quality kit... belt kept walking off and being shradded. I finally switched to the speed inc set up last week and i can tell you it's worth every penny! very very nice piece and has a built in tensioner.

Do I hear a GP around the corner? I have been struggling with belt problems as well. The Speed Inc kit looks awesome....but man, its very $$$. Wish there was a way to just reuse your stock alternator.

Call up Larry at Speed Inc and tell him Monello sent you. He will hook you up.

I just picked up the bracket and it looks strong, and shiny =).

Having the alternator shipped to me, as the UPS truck was late getting there this morning =(.

Frost, where have you been!!! lol

Here are some pics of the bracket. I get the alternator tomorrow.

I do have a question for speed inc. It looks like the 1 spacer is too big for the bottom bolt for the waterpump. Does this have anything to do with having a newer GM waterpump?

Should I trim the waterpump a bit, or the spacer?

Disregard the dirty engine, car is still under contruction =)

We are in the process of making a one peice CNC unit due to similar frusterations. We finally made a good one, so its going to Solid Works. It's gonna be a while to completion I'm sure. The cost for 1 is not much less than the cost for 100, so look for a sponser here to end up with them by spring.
