Funny about the weight thing…. As you, I tried to get my car as light as possible during the build. Now I have to add 400+lbs to get to legal weight for Ultra Street…. F that! I’ll run some other class… lol
But isn't the benefit that you can put the weight exactly where it needs to be?

yes. Absolutely, to some extent. But, that’s an awful lot of weight to find places to mount to. I’m sure it could be done.

I made weight brackets that I can add up to 800 lbs in the same spot, just stacked. I refuse to put that much weight in it but I can, lol.

Sold off the intercooler, intake, ice tank, fuel system etc and making the switch to methanol. Got tired of the ice and dumping about 100 lbs more off the car by switching. By doing so will gain me more rear weight % for no prep so win/win all around.

How hard are you leaning on it? Sure you need methanol? Only reason I ask, is I also considered it heavily, but couldn’t bite the bullet fuel system and maint wise. Are you talking a dual fuel deal or 100% meth 100% of the time?

Have a few buds running E85 and 30+lbs without an IC. (one is e98). Guys have been mixing 10-20% meth to the E85 to make a more capable fuel as well. (or just add meth inj) No doubt they would go quicker on meth, or intercooled but they are already faster than the 8.50 cages in the cars allow. I didn’t have the same luck with my hot air E85 motor. Knock on wood, with the new meth inj setup I haven’t munched any hard parts… yet. 5.50 sbe 5.3 deal.

Similar to A2W setups, methanol can be a huge pain. Maybe even more than the A2W if you plan to street drive it at all.

That said, another bud runs a 16 injector setup on 87 octane and meth. Cruises on stock injectors and the second set come on in boost only. A 5 gal meth cell lasts him a full night of racing and it’s the best of both worlds. But it’s not cheap or easy. Cable fuel pump, injectors, dual fuel system, and intake alone cost more than my chassis did!

My setup was built for M1. After dealing with the mx involved, I switched to VP X85.
for me, it’s just easier. I don’t have the time, or discipline, or patience to deal with the additional work required for using that fuel.

I know my 13.5:1 single turbo, hot air 370 would go faster on M1, but I just can’t deal with the crap that comes along with it.

Best of success to you!

FWIW good bud was running X85 on his “hot air” gen4 hemi. Twin BEP S483’s and it just wasn’t putting up the numbers we felt it should. Sitting right around 1200whp at 28lbs. Made an on-the-spot switch from X85 to pump E98 from our local station… same day same dyno etc. Aside from adding a bit of fuel, no other changes were made and he picked up just shy of 200hp at the wheels! For some reason his setup just didn’t like the X85… Or maybe I should say it REALLY liked e98.

Pretty capable fuel anyway. I’d try that WAY before I tried 100% meth. Maybe E98 with some meth at the turbo inlets.

I've heard good things about Ignite Red too, that's somewhere on the E85 spectrum right?

Think the big reason for barrel fuels is consistency. More for things like bracket racing IMO. The base fuel mixed with “e85” is all over the place. Its not so much the ethanol content that makes the largest difference like most people think. Its that sometimes the base fuel used to mix with E85 is suuuper crappy. You are miles ahead if you have access to 91 or 93 “ethanol free gas”. And then blend in your own e98 to make “e85”. Would be far superior to pump “e85”.

I played with e98 a bit. Definitely not a night/day difference. I haven’t been able to get back to a track since. My seat of the pants meter says It may be a tiny bit quicker on gate (7lbs “street boost”). I had to add 16% more fuel, which seemed like a lot to me. I target 10.8:1 on gas scale.

Well a year and a half later, the swap to m1 was 100% worth it. Barely any extra maintenance besides changing the oil slightly more often. It reminds me of e85 when it first came out and everyone was scared of it, now its nothing new. Been running lil gangster class as of lately and just enjoying the car finally. Long live ls1tech and my iconic build thread.

I like the lil gangsters class. I wish they’d added that class for YellowBullet this weekend.

I don’t know of any place in my area that has that class.

best of success to you.

Yea I like it a lot. True blue collar class with a obtainable goal with any engine package really. Lot of people make fun of it but im having fun racing my car vs it just sitting in a garage because it's too slow for small tire classes.

Thread bump....
Quick winter update, welded in Tick torque boxes to add strength and more har angle. Made a 4 gal fuel cell and got rid of my 12 gal cell. Don't drive the car anymore so lost a lot of fluid weight off the car. Ditched the panhard bar, cut off all the brackets off the car and adding a wishbone from Hammer Concepts. Then made my own torque arm mount due to the old one pushing my rearend off center.
