Default Anyone use a cheap ebay fuel bucket?

Has anyone used an ebay brand that's cheaper than the Delphi/AcDelco with success? It's all the same plastic and metal, and as long as the fuel pump is aftermarket I should be OK no? The one thing that concerns me is the fuel level sensor not being ****. Anyone use a cheap bucket $30-$65 with no issues?

Since no one answered, I have one coming in friday. It will be awhile before I get it installed but I'll inspect it when it arrives and will let you know if I see anything out of the ordinary. It was only $35 and the brand is ECCPP. All of them except the Delphi/ACDelco/Dorman are probably made by the same company in China and sold under different part numbers. I'm curious as to how long the fuel level sender will work before it goes bad.

Bucket arrived. Part number is E3368M. Plastic appears to be just as durable as stock. Spring mechanism is good. I performed a racetronix 255 conversion on it and everything fits nicely. I removed the factory pressure regulator and the barb for that is 1/4", so I will purchase Gates 27086 fuel hose and properly sized clamps to route the return line fuel to the bottom of the bucket like the stock system does. Feed line has a brass barb on the underside of the fuel hat, which is better than the plastic oem one. Venturi line hooked up with no issues and was easy to remove and replace. Everything appears to be legit. We'll see how long the fuel level sender lasts until I have to replace with a dorman unit.

Hi 5.7... I’m interested in your results since installed? Can you share??? How’s this working for you now??
i ask as my 2001 Camaro fuel gauge is erratic and continues to throw on the “check gauges” light on my dash. I’m sure it’s the fuel sender, but I’m having trouble finding just the sender itself. My goal is similar to yours, buy the cheap assembly housing with new fuel sender and install walburg pump.

It works fine, but if you are just wanting to replace the fuel level sender, see here:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...el-sensor.html

My issue is not the fuel level sender but the factory wiring harness, so if you replace them sender and you still have an issue, be sure to check those wires as well.

My friend has a 2001 Corvette. During all of last year had continual problems with the fuel sender and gauge - erratic. Was told all kinds of things that might be wrong.

Replaced the gas cap. Works fine and hasn't had an issue for last two months.

If you have the upgraded Racetronix harness for single or dual pumps, I would double check the connections for the terminals on the bulkhead connector on atmosphere side and the sender wires lead to the correct slot in the plug in the conversion plug (Racetronix refers to it an an intermediate harness because it isolates power to the pumps directly to the alter leaving wires to the fuel sender intact thru the stock wires) .

Don't know about your 99 C5 but on the 98 Fbody, the purple wires to the sender are not polar specific. Those are tiny wires - so check the crimped ends to make sure they aren't pulled loose. On the female side check as well because if the female terminal ends in the plug aren't snapped into position they can back out inside the plug. It's just a tiny little piece metal on the female terminal end that if bent down too far, it won't snap into position and be secure in on the female socket end.

It appears you have a yellow bulkhead connector on the fuel hat. This is what Racetronix has to say about the stock connector when running any single pump or dual pumps that get their power thru this connector.
  • Delphi changed the bulkhead connector in their modules from a 150-series to a 280-series type b/c if chronic failures. The 150-series terminals are rated at 14-amps max. at room temp This rating goes down with temp and age. The 280-series terminals are rated at 28-amps. 340LPH or larger pumps typically draw 12-14 amps @ 58PSI @ 13.5V which places this wiring/terminals right at their upper current limits.
  • When using a Walbro 255LPH pump a pressure rise will occur with the factory regulator configuration. This is b/c the regulator and return flow path is too small/restrictive to handle the pump's flow. Typical pressure at part throttle/idle will be 60-63 PSI vs. the factory set 58PSI. The pressure may drop once the pump/fuel warms up and the vehicle voltage drops. This pressure rise is not as pronounced without a hotwire kit b/c the voltage drop in the factory harness will reduce pump flow/performance.
  • Running a 340LPH or larger pump with the factory return system may cause premature pump failure b/c of excessive head pressures created. In-house testing here has proven this and that is why we have not offered a F99 340LPH solution yet. Once we are able to offer a complete system which eliminates this restriction we will.

Why would the gas cap have anything to do with the fuel level sending unit? The position of the float determines operation of the fuel level sender. Issue has to be electrical or the sensor itself.

I have the upgraded bulkhead and the hotwire kit on a 255 pump. The issue is most likely the factory harness for me, as the connection points are seated well. Once I take the harness off and check with ohm meter, I’ll know more.

I installed a CARTER P74921M a few weeks ago and I am having no issues whatsoever.
