I too am OLSD. So other than stoich and spark, the tune was left alone as far as switching to E85?

I can't speak for what your trims will do when switching.
I'm currently OLSD so there aren't any real adjustments that get made by my comp when I switched. I was still in the process of getting the 42# injectors in line so what my VE looked like before wasn't really indicative of what it is now.

I prob won't ever get a chance to get it dyno tuned to make the most effective spark changes either, which stinks.

Effectively yes, but like I said, my VE and injector stuff were not completely done before the switch.

To better answer the question, if you switch those two things and expect that your VE will need tweaking, yes that's all that was done.

Keep in mind tho, I am just some schmuck that read a couple internet threads and applied that info. I'm still just learning like most people here.

Sorry to leave the results a little ambiguous since the original tune was questionable, and honestly the current tune could be questionable as well since I'm no tuning pro
(although I did get some good advice) still,..you can't deny there's a gain to be had from this fuel.

Mods in sig, still stock compression, basically small cam and bolt-ons.

Does anyone know how much I could boost compression naturally aspirated?

If a stock LS7 (for example) runs 11:1 with 91-93 octane what compression could someone theorectically run with a engine dedicated to running soley E85 100% of the time?

I'm setting up my new motor at 13:1 with boost. I read one guy is running 15:1 N/A. There is an SAE paper where they modified a diesel motor for E-85, and I believe they ran it at 20:1.

15:1 NA sounds pretty good.

It is too bad E85 isn't more readily available in all 50 states because with the compression increased to compensate for the octane I bet some of the fuel efficiency would come back compared to straight gasoline vs E85 at normal compression ratios.

Agreed, and maybe the auto manufacturers could start building E-85 only motors.

I have to rebuild by LT1 and am going 383, I am debating building it up with more compression to run E85 only, or maximum compression for pump gas so I could change back if needed.

ive heard of people running 12.5:1 on pump gas, but you'll need just the right cam and tune to do it.

If you are talking about pump gas being E85 and/or 100 / 110..

You run that high of CR and throw 93/92/91 octane its gonna ping.

Ive read about people doin it. large cams though to bleed off press. and more of a strip/street car then street/strip.

ahhh man I can't wait to do this. I ran some quick numbers and the E85 in Colorado was about 15 cents cheaper per energy content per gallon than gasoline (that was assuming it had 70% of the energy content per gallon, i think that's close?) Thanks for the write up!

There are a couple places close to me where I could buy E85, and am interested in using it with higher compression for more power.

Put E85 in over the weekend and got about 185miles on it so far. I am impressed with the results so far. Seems to get into boost faster, car sounds different and I noticed in a given gear and rpm I'm the motor has less load on it. My injectors are maxed out bad at 149% at full boost, looking for bigger injectors now. I currently have 42lb injectors from 04 Cobra. Using gas I was at 95 % inj duty cycle under full boost (8lbs). So far I don't think I'm going back to regular gas.
p.s. I did tune my set up with Hptuners with the parameters suggested by RUNN.
