99 ta 456 gear swap problem
a buddy wants 456 gears in his 99 ta M6 when he put the gears in, the paddle pin won't go back into place. was hopin someone could chime in with some advice. Can 456 gears go in a stock 10 bolt? I heard SLP made a seperating paddle pin but that failed so they discontinued it. I don't really know crap about rear ends.

When I did mine back in the day! I just grinded as litle as possible and test fitted each time until if fit. Just grind a notch. But make sure you only do it on one side and the same way the hole id drill thru.

This is the one job i personally would never do. And youre doing it after making statements like "I don't really know crap about rear ends," and "I didn't think it was such a pain int the butt to do a gear swap." So, good ******* luck getting them in there without a **** ton of gear wine.
I just Googled for you:

even though I had to grind the gears, the removed portions are well away from the mesh contact area,as seen by the marking compound.I built this rearend in the fall of 2007,taken 3 trips to Florida from Ohio and no problem has occurred.

I don't have anything to do with it. My mechanic buddy just asked me to post for some information. I don't know why the goober wants 456 gears, but hey, its not my car.
Thanks again for the great pics and info. I knew this was the place to go.
