On a related note, what are the general weights of each if anyone knows?
Strange 12 bolt
Moser 12 bolt
Moser (or any) 9 inch
Moser (or any) 9 inch with aluminum center section
Stock 10 bolt
Assuming 4.10 gears in each if it matters?
Just curious.
That could be a problem if you want to reatain your ABS as I'm sure you do...
I don't think you can use a 9 inch with ABS but without ASR, it's either ABS/ASR together or neither one at all.

Well since strange and moser use the same posi There is no difference.
I have a 2000 $ 10 bolt in my car. Actually never broke the 10 bolt, but broken the 12 bolt twice..
I now run a spool, but highly recommend a 9" to anyone that is the market for a new rear.

Sometimes it's what happens after the fertilizer hits the oscillator that makes the difference between a good company and the I-don't-give-a-****-one.
I looked at a 9" like you suggested, but I want to keep my 3 channel ABS active. FWIW, I am only sending 413 ponies to the rear wheels, and do not plan to spray out of the hole with slicks. For me, it's all about a NA motor and letting the clutch go with Nittos at 3000 to 3500rpm.
Still hard on the rear, but I feel good about my chances maybe 10 times a year.

What else was done to beef it up? A lot I assume for $2k invested LOL.
I'd love to keep the lighter, 'less power robbing' 10 bolt in there.

Yeah I got what you mean't probally didn't come out right.
I only have about 430 hp to the wheels and no Nitrous.. It borke on a 4500 dump..
I also have a freind who had a bolt on car destroy the differental.
I understand wanting to keep the ABS though, good luck.
Thanks Bruce for clarifying. Yes I have a 12 bolt, but would never, never recommend anyone buying one. seen way to many of them break in the past year.
i'll be stepping up to BSPz28 set up when I get rich..

I am quite amazed that these 12 Bolts are breaking. They were once deemed "bulletproof."
I still don't think there's a perfect soluton to this rear end dilemma. The 9" is now the bull of the rears, but if you have 3 channel ABS you are screwed. Also, it is the most power robbing.
Maybe the 8.8 has the potential to combine both worlds, but no sponsor sells them. Yet.

I agree, if I were to ever step up to real power I would ONLY go with a 9 inch, problem is I don't have traction control.

Which means no operable ABS.
For resale value, and for streetability, I went with the wimpy 12 Bolt. Hardcore racers say screw the ABS, but I haven't got that mindset.
Maybe that'll change?

Another vote for a Stange 12 bolt. ESP for your application. I would run a spool or at a minimum an Eaton Posi. I think the 9"is overkill for a low 11/high 10 second car. I have installed MANY Strange 12 bolts. They are great quality and as said above, they have awesome customer service. FWIW, I have a Moser in my car with a spool and if I could do it over again I would get a Strange....

my 12-bolt has 40k miles and has only been set up once (by moser before i got it). it has been in three different cars, my 98 TA, my buddies 02 TA, and now my 02 SS. it has never broken anything and has been beaten to hell. probably has over 150 passes on slicks and god knows how many on street tires and drag radials. the 12-bolt will handle all the power most of us throw at them and is much more streetable. my buddie with the 02 TA bought a 9" but then got rid of it. it wasn't as streetable, meaning he had no abs and made the car ride a lot different. also messed up the torque arm since it dosn't mount quiet the same. along with the fact that the factory sway bar won't work either. my vote, if you car is a STREET car is to get the 12-bolt. much less hassle and can easily handle a heads/cam, small shot of nitrous car.
