Question 2.73 to 3.42

Okay i have a 94 z28 automatic that came with the stock 2.73's... a friend of mine gave me a 95 chevy s10 differencial with 3.42's, just wondering if it will fit and if i have to chim also... thanks for any help

Yes they will work but you would have to put in a spacer personally it would be better to buy a thick gear many people have used them with no problems.

mmm thick gear??? i also have stock 3.23's and noticed theyre a bit smaller than the 3.42's... still deciding which one to go with

he gave you the whole rear end, the center chunk, or just the gears??

well the 3.42's came with the differencial...(the center chunk) while the 3.23's are just the gears...

If its the differential and gears you can swap it all as long as you know how to shim it. Im not sure if the 94 has the speed sensor tho.

2.73 is 2 series and 3.23 and 3.42 are 3 series. So if you use your stock diff. then you will need gears for a 2 series carrier.

Yes it will physically fit. You have the matching gears and center section, just pull yours and replace it while shimming it correctly. However, you do need to verify that your axles are the same spline as the new unit or they wont plug into it.
