Default how to remove gears?

I am looking at a ten bolt out of a ws6 in my garage with 3.42 gears, I am trying to pull the ring and pinion out of it. I have removed the bearing caps, the small 5/16 bolt that runs thru the posi, and the steel block in the middle, also have removed both c clips, and pulled the axles out. Should the ring/posi unit pop out now? is it just stuck in there? should I pull hard on it?

I had a hard time getting my gears out as well - I found a prybar did the trick. On the driver side you can rest a prybar against the axle and pry on some of the bolts on the carrier.

and DONT use a hammer on the pinion threads to get it out,, there is a nice dimple in the end of the pinion, an air hammer with a round blunt end will push the pinion right out without damage to the threads

I havnt gotten that far yet, still trying to get the posi/ring gear out as one unit.

Is the pinion usually hard to get out too?

Yep, the pinion is a pain as well (worse than the ring IMO)

Stick an axle back in the rear end, put a big *** wrench on one of the ring gear bolts, and twist the axle so that it pushes the wrench against the case, and tightens the bolt. The carrier should shift around and come loose.

with my lack of knowledge and word terminology, I somehow Managed a ring & pinion swap, and swapped whole rear ends in my car. Now I am cruising with 4.10's instead of 3.42's in my m6 z28.
I am loving it.
third day now, and no signs of anything odd.. quite as stock.. I ran it hard the first night to make sure nothing was going to break, because if it was, I wanted it to now.

Now whats the cheapest way to fix my speedometer lol?
