what is the weak link in the 10 bolt

Default what is the weak link in the 10 bolt

so im almost done with my colection of parts to build the 8.8 ford rear, but i was asked the question of what the weak link is on the stock one and im not positive (mine is still intact with 11.46et). so guy what have you broken, and what transmission were you running when you broke it

is it the center cection of the housing or the tubes? my guess would be the center flexes too much?

I would say condition. A freshly rebuilt 10 bolt can withstand a lot more abuse then a well worn one.

most is the ring gear size (this is why you generally rate a rear by the ring gear.... 7.5< 8.8< 9" and so on) then the housing has too much flex (which was nice they added a TQ arm right where the pinion is) this allows the ring and pinion to move away and cause bad tooth contact. resulting in whine and missing teeth axles are too small but generally they don't break too often and usually its a fluke the carrier didn't fail first with only two side gears. the rest is bad ideas in general but aren't so much a weak link

Ive broke alot of pinion's in my 7.5's

I agree, and if you take a look at the other GM cars that have basically the same rear but without a torque arm on them, they seem to hold up much longer. Bob

im thinking you guys are right on the torque arm mount being a factor
