How much to rebuild a stock junkyard 10-bolt?
I need to replace my rear end. I plan on getting a junkyard rear end and having it rebuilt if needed.
What parts do i need to order and about how many hours am I looking at for a professional to do it?
I may have to replace all or some of the supports (panhard, control arms, etc.) due to them being bent.
Stock parts are fine as this is my DD and i don't plan on adding much HP.
I'd really like to keep it under $1000 but i doubt that'll happen.

since there's no description of the vehicle, other than 2002 TA,you have to make sure a replacement rearend is compatible with what the vehicle has. 3 or 4 channel system, manual or auto-computor retuning for a gear change.
2002 TA would have had a 'Torsen' posi.
A compatible rear could be either Torsen or Auburn(from a 98 LS1 vehicle).
You won't know if it needs rebuilding until it's inspected.
A 'master' rebuild kit is relatively inexpensive.
Torque arm, panhard bar, & lower control arms, since you want to stay with stock, are 'giveaways' by many enthusiasts after replaceing those parts with aftermarket parts.

If you are stuck on using a 10 bolt at least get yourself a good girdle Have you cruised the classifieds here for one? Stock parts are easy to find when checking the classifieds of guys who like to mod their cars

That said, i would much rather get one from a member who knows that it's in working condition and not having to play the lotto with a junk yard junker.

i gotcha. as far as rebuilding a junkyard rear, i would just get one that fits, bolt it up and ride. it's possible to get a perfectly fine rear from a junkyard, have somebody go through it and end up having problems down the road from incorrect work.

i've seen that in another post. i still find it odd to have toe aimed right on both sides and camber is ok?? i would think the bracket would bend first and that can be fixed easy, tq arm not strait or pulled right for some reason like trans mount is moved over. or you can try swapping control arms from left to right.

I believe everything is bent. The drivers side of the axle housing is bent. Then there has to be some bent brackets/arms causing the thrust angle to be off by twice the factory specs.

i'll give you an idea of what i spent rebuilding my rear end. I think from there you'll be able to gauge a cost.
1. rebuild kit, with all bearings, races, shim kit, rear cover gasket, crush sleeve (i actually just bought the solid pinion kit from ratech, so i didn't use a crush sleeve)... about $150
2. used, but in perfect condition, stock torsen carrier... $75. i've them range between 50-100, and then there's the option of something better, but.... $600 carrier in a 10 bolt?
3. new 4.10s, but i went with the cheapest brand i could find... $155, again, there's the pricier options, but for what? It's a 10 bolt.
I've seen junk yard 10 bolts go for $100. That'll get you a housing, and maybe a good enough torsen or auburn unit to get you moving again, axles, and maybe anything else you've bent or broken.
I spend maybe a couple hundred on misc tools that i needed to rebuild it myself. It wasn't the worse or the hardest thing ever. Just need plenty of research for specs and tips on how to knock it out.. fwiw.
Hope this helps, if not the OP, then anyone else searching in the future.

OP, Im in the shreveport area. About 3 hours from you. I have a bare 10 bolt housing (3 channel, non traction control) I could build for you. You get me a posi, axles, gears, and a rebuild kit and I will assemble it like brand new. It will only cost you a 12 pack when you come pick it up. Thats a fair deal

I figure a rebuild kit would be about $125, used posi would be about $75-125, axles about $75-125, and gears anywhere from $50-175. So if we take the highest prices.....$550 with any gear choice you like or closer to $450 with a stock gearset.

Saw this and thought I'd shoot the link over to ya all the way at the bottom of the first post
You can do a lot of shipping when the part is only costing $250 or less if the seller is willing to deal on it
