Default What Gear Oil..

Im making sure i have everything i need to get my rear together but im unsure of which oil i should use. Nor how much and if any additives are needed.

The rear is an 8.8 with a toresen diff. Stock f-body width if that matters. What gear oil would everyone recommend ? Would i need to run an additive like i would have to run for the stock LSD ? Thanks

Typically torsens do not require posi additive bc they are gear driven. Gears dont need additive, clutches do. Since it has no clutches you're good.

Valvoline 80w90 ( or pay 1 dollar more for durablend )
Or lucas 80w90
I think with that ford 88, u can use 75w90 mobil 1 or 75w140 mobil 1
change it every 30k or 1 year or 2 year.

Im currently running lucas 80w90 and plan to change out every 2 year.

GM or lucas oil for me. I know Royal Purple has caught a lot of negative attention for rear end failures, not sure if it's true and it'd be really hard to prove-I'm sure it's just because they're supposed to be "the best" so people bitch about when anything goes wrong with their car when they use the product. Hard to say, but I've seen enough negative claims towards RP specifically, I'll steer clear on their gear oil.

I use royal purple in my auburn rear diff. Not a comlaint here. If something breaks I highly doubt it would be from bad fluid...to much or too little will do damage though.

My car is not a DD.. So I changed my gear oil back in 3/2009.. This is what I used..

2 qts Valvoline no syn 80w90
1 LSD additive
1 Felpro Gasket
1 thing of black RTV sealant

I know their is a debate on whether or not to use syn gear oil.. I used no syn, never noticed a difference. But then again I added LSD additive

And this is the GM TSB:

GM issued a technical bulletin adding modifier to the rear axle oil. This was done to quiet what we call a "Rusty Screw" noise that we heard in a very small percentage of vehicles. This does not happen in all cases, however to address owner's concerns we asked that the modifier be used in all instances to insure that the driver would not get this noise. When replacing the fluid it is at the owner's discretion whether or not to add the modifier. Elimination of the modifier does not affect durability of the differential.
