Its most likely the pinion bearing. Start by replacing both axle bearings first just in case. They are cheaper... if that doesnt solve it then you are looking at a little more money.

Does it change in pitch/volume when you steer right or left? At what speed do you start to hear it?

i can tell no difference if turning and it pretty much starts as soon as the car starts moving soon as u get going as an example around 10mph its kinds like a low drone that sounds like gears but as soon as u get up in speed like 40 or so by that time it sounds like something is rubbing and its real loud and its sounds like its from the passenger rear. i really know nothing about the rear so im lost but there really isnt that much back there right? like i said the shop thought it was an axle bearing so they replaced the passenger side one and of course when they had the cover off the diff they thought everything looked fine nothing was broken off. someone told me to set the e brake and get the car moving that there might be rust inside the rotor and the e brake shoes might be dragging does that make sense? just so everyone knows the car is not hotrodded and i cant see why the rear would be trashed and if it is then its probably the first one ever to be trashed from cruising at 40mph lol..but seriously worst case what all can i replace and im just a regular guy no mechanic for sure because it has to be something stupid

I tell you what. My car had never been modded by the previous owner. No evidence whatsoever. All it had was a k&n filter, the guy was in his 60s. The rear did the same as you state. It starts as soon as the car starts moving and never goes away. I replaced the wheel bearings and it did nothing. I can tell you then its inside the rear end. These 10 bolts are notorious for spider gears going as well as the pinion bearing.

As you can see I could no longer take the noise and got an s60. You could probably benefit from just doing a rebuild on yours.

My last 2 stock rear ends both killed the pinion bearings. While the shop may have looked the insides over, you can't see the pinion bearings with out removing the carrier. Also, if your car is lowered and you have not set your pinion angle, you will have a noisey rear end in no time.
