Default Driveshaft Q's...

Alright... having too many toys suck!

My 98 Z28 has a 9" and now swapping to a shorttail TH400. I had the 9" and a 4L60E in the car, with a 3.5 PST D/S.

I have a 99 Z28, 4L60E, going to get a Moser 12 bolt... can I reuse the D/S from my 98 in the car or is it useless now?

Also, what leanth D/S do I need for the 98?

Thanks!

The 10 bolt and 12 bolt take the same length driveshaft, the 9 inch takes a driveshaft one inch longer. Bob

That does not make any sense unless you got some weird pinion yoke. You didn't try to install the driveshaft when the rear was hanging down, did you? That will make it appear as if the driveshaft is too long. Bob

It would be one inch too long, not sure if you can cut just one inch out of it. Your best bet is to go with a 9 inch in the '99... lol

As far as your '98 goes, I'd wait until you get the turbo 400 in it to get a measurement for the driveshaft, as I have seen the lengths vary. Bob

I'm pretty sure a d/s can cut the one inch out to make it correct

No matter what at the end of the day it is always best to measure for drive shaft length. We do enough of our housings that we know the length of a M4 and a M6. You get into changing transmissions around is were it is crucial. When we do a rear end build for a customer with a drive shaft order one of the questions I ask the customer is their intended ride height and tires.

Depending on tire height you chose to run and ride height as well will all determine your drive shaft length. Granted you have some "play" to work with that's why we use a slip yoke but if you are going this far with your build you might as well take the time to measure your correct length.

Also you can shorten a drive shaft if needed.

The reason I mention tire height is because with a 28" tall tire you have to move the wheel base around some depending on ride height.

I hope this helps some.

I'll bet the used 12 bolt you bought had parts swapped out in it, as that is not the norm. Bob

Unless the rear is moved forward and not centered in the wheelwell, that is a real mystery! Bob
