I have full bolt-ons and a cam in my 02 M6 hawk. cam specs are 230/232, .595/.585, 112+4 LSA. I have the stock 3.42's in right now, but i've been debating going up to 4.10's for a while and wanted to get real opinions of pro's/cons from people who have them.
I know i'll hit my power band faster with 4.10's, but how noticeable is the difference and what could i expect to shave off in the 1/4 mile?
I also know i'll lose some fuel economy, but realistically how much will my fuel economy suffer if I put 4.10's in? Note this is also my daily driver. Thanks for your help!

If you plan on keeping the 10 bolt around for awhile then I think 4.10's are definitely a worthwhile mod. You may pick up a MPH or two at the track but should ET a couple 10th's faster regardless, if you can hook that is.
You shouldn't notice much of anything with the MPG, atleast from my experience.
Good luck.

i think i'm leaning towards getting the 4.10's...![Driving](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_driving3.gif)
quick question - will my speedometer read incorrectly after i put the 4.10's in? If so how easy is it to fix, just take it to a tuner?

^^^ yes, carefule driving around because you will end up going faster than you think. Take it where you get your car tuned and they should be able to recalibrate your speedo.
4.10's will wake your car up that much more.. After getting mine a month ago, the only real issue i have now is traction. Ofcoarse im only on street tires.

With 4:10's it will wind up much quicker and yes, you need to adjust the speedo with a tuner if you want it to be accurate. Usually read about 4 - 6 mph different and also your odometer will wind up miles quicker too as that would need adjusted as well.

I had a 01 SS M6 and ran slower with 4.10's in the quarter since i had severe traction issues even with nitto drag radials. So yes you can run quicker in the quarter with good traction but in my case i didnt since traction was limited. My MPG is hardly a difference at all im still getting good MPG's for what the car is and havent noticed any change at all mostly because i drive around now in 6th gear in town instead of 4th or 5th and probably get a bit better gas mileage around town as a result and highway is hardly a difference as well. Ive done this to all the camaro's ive had and its the same results for me.

I reduced my 60' by .2 on street tires with the change from 3.42 to 4.10s. You have to come out of the hole easy at the track to avoid spinning but even so you'll reduce your ET with the 4.10s. I lost about 1 mpg around town with the change. Had to have madtuner correct my tune for speedo recalibration cost $50.

Will it have any effects on the life of the motor since it'll be revving higher? Also do I need to change the differential oil more often? More questions that get answered the more I have, plz educate the noob

I can tell you that after 3k miles my 4.10 rear still runs much hotter than the 114k mile 3.42 rear I took out of the car. The 3.42 rear basically stayed at ambient temp after being driven. The 4.10 rear runs hot enough you don't want to leave your hand on the cover long. I plan to change the rear gear oil more frequently because I'm sure it will break down faster the hotter it runs.
You'll only be running a couple hundred rpm higher in top gear only, most likely on the highway. Around town with a M6 I just run the same rpm I used to run because I'm in the next higher gear.....so no the engine will not measurably wear any faster.

if you run 28 tires street DR and slicks for the track I would get 4:56s. Even if the car runs 11's, or don't go to the track alot.
I've gone 130 cam only and its perfect for going really fast cam only at the track. About 6500rpms, and drives better on the street.
More Gear with Big Cam drives BETTER!!!!! Easier to get the car moving, no bucking with the cluch fully out going slow in a parking lot. Or when you have 4 people in the car at a stop sign going up a hill one car at a time ect....
You can use 6th gear at 55. 80mph is only 2200rpms. I know friends with 342s and 373s witha big cam and they never use 5th and 6th. I think I get better gas milage with having a big cam. you dont have to lugg the motor under 2K rpms.
the 10bolt in junk, so I wouldnt put any money into it.
I think you yout sticking with 26 tires 4;10 is the same ratio mph/rpm.

I'm putting the 4.10's in tomorrow and probably getting the speedo recalibrated the next day. What do you guys recommend for a break-in period? I was thinking about racking up ~50 hwy/street miles and letting them cool down completely for a full heat cycle. Should I wait longer to go WOT?
