Default New Rear End Gears

So I have done the A4 to M6 Swapp. The swap is being finished up at a local transmission shop.

Now i have read around that the Stock A4 came with 2.73 gears in the back.

Should i go ahead and replace them?! the car is mainly drove inside the city and tends to see some traffic. I want something that i dont have to beat on the clutch but still can use 6th gear with reason. This car WILL NOT see the strip. but will see some highway racing.

Yes. 2.73s would be terrible. Even going to a 3.42 manual rear would be loads better.

Nothing cheap will bolt on.. Even the stock M6 10 bolt is weak, even with a lil flexing..Im Going the 8.8 explorer route. Just waiting for eastwood to send me my welder to finish up..

If you decide to install gears versus swap rear ends, do yourself a favor and get GM, AAM, or Yukon gears.

there isnt anything wrong with the rear i have other then a bad gear ratio for the trans i have. i dont put any unnamed crap in my car probably going to go with GM

So 3.42 would be better the 3.23

Yes, the stock A4 gears are going to hinder you. 3.42s at minimum. If it wasn't a 10bolt, I'd recommend 4.10s! I daily drive on my 4.11s in my 9". Gas MPG is unaffected, and the gear just feels awesome.

with a M6 you may aswell get 3.73s since you're going to swap them anyway

this.... if you're going to swap get 3.90's or 4.10s depending on your taste but i prefer the 3.90s. 2.73s with a t56 will be a dog and 3.42s are the stock ratio so dont go lower than that
