Default will 69 chevelle rear end hold up?

i have a factory 69 chevelle 10 bolt rear end and am doing a turbo 5.3 setup aiming for in the 600's. I have do decide whether to stick money in the factory rear end or if i should upgrade and to what? is there any vehicles that are direct swap that would handle power better?
if i keep it i need to change gears, locker, c clip eliminator kit, and disc brake setup, wondering if its worth it on this rear end
any help would be great

Since you will need to invest in all those parts you mentioned, I say look for a 12-bolt at the very least. All 68-72 A-body rears are essentially the same (width also).

Sure there are stories of guys running 10-bolts in 10 second cars. But more often than not, it will be a safer option to upgrade now before you put one more dime in the old. Besides, there is more aftermarket parts avail for the 12-bolt.

Those years of A bodies have a factory style four link dont they? And what ^^^ he said^^^… Dont waste your money on that 10 bolt. Even if its a 8.5. A 12 bolt minimum. And a C clip eliminated as you mentioned. Drum brakes are fine. Disk are for looks and ease of pad swaps. Both offer great stopping power depending on pad choice.

Almost forgot. If you do swap to rear disk. You will have to fab a parking brake setup. And possibly change to a different master and either a adjustable proportioning valve to dial in rear brake bias. This car. Already has front disk? Any car that's a A body will swap( Buick, Olds, Pontiac) 68/69 of course. Check if the G bodies have the same rear too.

If it's a 69, it has the 8.2 10 bolt.

Get a 12 for it, but it might be cheaper and a better option to go with a new aftermarket bolt in 12 bolt or 9 inch. Any used 12 bolt from an original SS car is going to be $$ and it won't have anything more than 30 spline axles in it.

This is one time when you need to look over to the blue oval. Ford 9" with 35 spline axles will be the best option. Get the large Torino tapered bearings or find someone to make you a full floater if you don't want to ever worry about it again.
