NEED HELP! 10 bolt with Driver Side C-clip won't come out far enough
I am trying to replace the bearing and and seal in my 1999 trans Am with rear disc brakes and trans control.I took out the ABS sensor and all the necessary parts. I pushed in the passenger axle "C" clip fell out. The Driver side is another story, it WILL NOT come out, the axle just won't push in far enough to allow enough clearance for the clip to come loose. I've hit the hub with a hammer, used a ratchet strap to try and get another 1/16 of an inch but nothing. The C -Clip is free but it won't tilt up enough to get around the front lip to come out. I am out of ideas .Any suggestions?

It shouldn't be that difficult to come out. Try grabbing the axle that's stuck and pulling in and out really quickly. I usually do that and they shoot out but it should have came out espescially with a magnet. If you truly have exhausted all possibilities and truly come to the point your sure it won't come out. You could get the carrier shim out on the side you have the axle out of. Then slide the carrier to the right. Let the carrier shim on the stuck side slide out enough to cut it in two with a cutoff wheel then once the shims out the carrier will slide toward the pass side. You'll be needing a new shim but you'll have the c clip out. And you did take the wheel sensors off if its a 4 channel car?

Shimming the driver side back tight would put it back the way it was since you have one solid shim that you won't be cutting on the pass side. I would definitely avoid cutting it if I could though.

I ran into this issue before. In my case it was a friends rear and a Diff shop used axle saver bearings when his axle bearings went out and grooved the axle. The axle savers prevented us from being able to push the axle in far enough to get the c clip out..

oChristiano - what did you guys end up doing? I think I'm having the same problem. Clip just won't come out and even if it does, I don't know how i'd get it back in at this point. Removed the sensor that's clearly an issue, and didn't get anywhere.

Ran into this yesterday and could NOT get the L side c-clip out..... so I used a c-clamp and drew in the axle inward and the clip fell right out.

Cool ... glad to hear that it dropped out. It has been a while since I've been in my pumpkin! LOL!
