408/F1-A ProCharger/T56/Street racing/which rear gear?
Ok, so I searched and found few threads that were similar, but I couldn't find something that fit my setup.
The car is a '98 WS6, 408ci LQ9, F1-A ProCharger at 16-17psi, T56 transmission, 295/55/15 tire, and I am shooting for somewhere in the 800-850rwhp range for now. I will be going to a 9" soon and I can't decide on which gear I want to go with. The car will only see the track once or twice, and will be street raced/roll raced often. I can't stress that enough.
I have talked to Bob @ Brute speed and he recommended a 3.70 gear. I fully trust his opinion, but I just wanted to see what others would say. People are telling me to go with a higher gear such as a 3.55 due to traction issues but I can't decide. So far it is between a 3.55 and a 3.70.
Any input is welcome. Thanks.

no way you want a 3.70 with that much power , i would think that a 3.50 would be the max . your gonna have tons of power and dont need to be shifting so often and with that tall of a tire .

IM making about 880 to the rear wheels and have 3.50's in a 9" rear. I have basically the same setup you do. 408 stroker with an F1a. Im happy with the gear, but the rear roars, Asking the Driveshaft Shop to make it right. Its a brand new assembly.

My stock T-56 wont handle 1/4 mile launching. I don't know what to do about an upgrade or a rebuild of my own. Right now, all I "fool around" with is street at a roll. Tires now are still M/T DR's so they break loose fast. I don't quite know how to handle it "YET"....

Glad to hear someone with almost the same build chime in. I'm going to do the 3.50's for sure. How does your car do from a roll? Does the boost come in hard? I'm eager to drive mine haha. What pulley are you using for 16psi?

I don't have it yet, looking into doing a 4L80e swap and selling the T56. I will most likely still be doing the 3.50 gear even with the auto.

We had a 408 in my Camaro, an F-1C was being used when the above video was taken. I had a Moser M9 (the first Moser M9 ever made for an F Body) with 3.70 gears. 28" tall tires, going through the traps in the 1/4 at 6800 rpm with a powerglide. Bob

Thanks, the car made good power. KP had an F-1A in his '98 Trans-Am and ran 8.80 something with 3.70 gears and 28" tall tires. For the dragstrip the 3.70 gear and these similar combinations work out very well. Bob
