If you mean for a third or fourth gen, then you are looking for a specific shock and most importantly torque arm mounting areas.
Should have provisions for the 2 bolts and machines areas where the TQ attaches to the housing.

I know its for a f body its got the torque arm mount spring mounts and all I watched the guy unbolt it out of a 1998 T/A I was just wondering who the manufacturer was ex. Strange or Moser after looking at pics on yahoo I'm pretty sure it's a Moser by the way the torque arm mount is cast but still would like to know if anyone knows by the ME003 cast in the housing

Strong suggestion before putting that 12-bolt directly in is rebuild it first to save yourself some possible hassles. Change the axle bearings from ball bearing to tapered and put in a new ring and pinion. 12-bolts are prone to ring and pinion noise over time and not knowing the age or miles on the housing it may be due plus a tapered bearing is better choice for a street driven vehicle. If it already hasn't been changed or ordered with tapered bearings.

Once you do that you'll be like new and ready to rock with a good rear end.

How do you get a 12 bolt to not whine?

Don't drive it

There are a solid number of people on LS1Tech with quiet 12 bolts, mostly behind an A4, but with quality parts and the correct break-in cycle you should be fine unless you're constantly launching 500 wheel HP on slicks.
