Some RAM questions
2. Why do they list a 3/8" bolt kit ($18) and a 3/8" stud kit ($116)?
3. Do I need either if keeping stock flywheel?
4. What is the disc shim kit for if you use an adjustable MC?
5. Does the VDS Clutch System ($939) come with EVERYTHING I need?
Thanks for your help.
Mike
I have a high milage, street and strip car. I have yet to get the billet flywheel, and don't think i will.
The first 402/6130 combo i had lasted 9k miles. The pressure plate showed much more wear than the stock resurfaced flywheel.
So i stayed w/ the stocker when i installed the next RAM clutch.
The stud kit is for their flywheel. You will have to drill out 3 of the holes on the pressure plate if you keep the stock flywheel. Not a big deal if you have a hand drill, they don't need to go much bigger.
the shim kit is if you wish to adjust the clamping force of the disc.
I just got the disc and plate, stock flywheel and modded my master to be adjustable. $350 + $40 for a resurf.

And all you have to do is enlarge 3 existing holes to get the pressure plate to mate up? By the way... can you e mail me where you got the two items for only 350? Thanks. Send to anthony@stangnet.com
I was origianly going to go with the whole kit minus hydraulics (I've got a cheaper source for that) but now I'm rethinking it... sounds like you have a winner. Besides, I'm 'only' planning on 500RWHP, 500RWTQ, give or take 25 points.

The "VDS" plate is just the 402, 11" diaphram pressure plate. Yes you can replace the friction ring, but....
the replacement ring is in the range of $110, while a new, complete, plate is $150. and, often the ring is a special order part, while the plate is a standard stock piece.
yes, enlarge 3 holes. The plate is setup for standard small block 3/8" bolts. The LS1 flywheel uses 10mm bolts.
You can get the parts from summit
RAM-402 - $149.95
RAM-6130 - $175.99
If I understand you; I could buy the 6130, 402 and get a 2001 slave and a modified master (or mod mine) then I will be reusing all the fasteners and just drilling 3 holes slightly larger? That makes for about $580 if I added right plus about $40 to resurface my flywheel. That price includes a new MC and a new slave. Sounds good to me!

...This would be a good Disc for those using stock flywheel.

From following the postings, Harlan's setup works quite well with the stock flywheel. I was going aftermarket until I learned his held up. I duplicated his clutch setup along with fabricating the adjustable master. Only have a few hundred miles on mine, but it is great. Chatter is very controllable with some rpm - matter of fact I had no chatter at first and just minor chatter now.
Can't imagine anyone putting a lesser clutch in their high performance car.
You can get the Iron Disc from Summit. Part #Ram-910. You can also get the Ram-980 from them. This disc has the Iron on PP side and Organic Flyweel side. This would be a good Disc for those using stock flywheel.

Whoa. I did not know that. Something I will be considering.
