Default 3.73 or 4.10

Well I trashed my pinion and I was thinking of 4.10s. My car is a a4 and I had 3.73,it shifts at 6500rpm. I need to know which gear would be better for me?

You can search this topic, but the general consensus is no larger than 3.73 for the A4.

Go no more than 3.73 for your A4. The 4.10's are even weaker.

My mechanic recommended a 4.10 gear for my A4. Even though it's my daily driver, it will actually increase my gas mileage because it's almost all city. Obviously if you get out on the highway you wouldn't get the same results.

I have 4.10s in my car. It doesn't get that bad of gas mileage.

3.73's for an auto. My 4.10's in my M6 hardly changed gas milage. I went from 20 mpg to 18.5mpg.

i also want to put gears im trying to figure out the same thing. And also which would be better for a totally stock rear end. And do you have to drop the rear end? the car is a 99 TA not WS6.

Depends on your set up and tollerances. I have 3.73's with my cam only A4. I'm considering 4.10's. Don't care if they are weaker because I don't launch that hard. Just be ready to tune shift points for optimal performance.

... on stock rearend ... go 3.73's if you plan on a big stall. If you plan on anything under a 3200 stall, go 4.10's.

I have 4.10s in my car and love them! They're perfect for an A4 car running as quick as low 12s or high 11s. I run a 27" tire and go through the traps at 110-111 MPH between 5700-5800 RPM. I've also cut a 1.61 60' time launching at about 2300-2400 RPM.
