3.42 and 3.73 Gear Questions...
How much do 3.73's on an A4 change the RPM's as far as daily driving, and on gas milage. I have a HPP3 so I will be able to adjust the RMP's and Speedo, but I didnt know exactly how much it affected the drivablilty day to day.
Another question if I was go from the stock 3.23's to 3.42's instead of the 3.73's would I see much of a difference in performace at all?

Ur RPMs will go up a noticeable bit but it should not be to bad from going 3.23s to 3.73s. I went from 2.73s to 3.73s in my TA and it wasnt that bad. Never did a MPG check but i was filling up about 50-75miles sooner than before around town(also got F14 cam though) and got about 250-275miles per tank on the highway going to Futral w/ the mods listed in my sig. What Ur MPG is going to be however is tough to say since it all depends on ur driving style but you prolly wont see to much of a difference from 3.23s to 3.73s
3.23 to 3.42 prolly would see a very minimal difference in performance if any at all
Ell ESS WON, 3k@60mph on the highway i was turning about 3k@80mph on the highway w/ my 3.73s

[QUOTE=2001NBMZ28]A4/3.73/3k Rpm = 88 Mph[/QUOTE
60 mph w/ 323's = 1800 rpm
70'''''''''''''''''''''''''''' = 2100 rpm
80'''''''''''''''''''''''''''' = 2400 rpm
60 mph w/ 373's = 2100 rpm
70'''''''''''''''''''''''''''' = 2400 rpm
80'''''''''''''''''''''''''''' = 2800 rpm
Depending on tire size, of course.

FWIW
I just swapped my 3.23 out for the 3.73 and I am surprised at the driveableness (is that a word??).
I was hesitant because I did not want to be at too high of an RPM and even though there is a difference it is not bad.
I think a 3.23 to 3.42 might be too small of a difference.
Also, here is a link to help you decide: www.f-body.org/gears

after swapping in my 373s for 273s i gained .25 i the 1/4 with a best 60' of .12 slower and spinning even more after hitting 2nd. not to mention my best 273 run was on a perfect night and my best 373 run was on a night so humid it looked like it was raining as i accelerated down the track.
