Some 35 spline lockers make noise around corners.

Heavier oil might quiet it down, like 80/145.

I just put my new 9" in and the Locker pw with it said non-synthetic, so I used two 80w-90's and one and a half 85w-140's and it works great!!!!!!! If your worried about losing HP use a 75w-90. I don't know why either, bet I'm not taking any chances.

Wal-mart has full synthetic 85w140 for $9 a quart. Absolutely use synthetic.

After break-in you should be able to use any oil you want.

In any gear-operated differential, be it open, limited-slip, or locker, there is no need to use any additive. That additive is a friction modifier that helps a clutch or cone-type limited-slip operate better and last longer.

Now thats funny........

I have run straight weight 140 in more differentials that I can count and cannot find any reason why this would even be an issue. Unless...... your relative climate would require a thinner viscosity lubricant..... or..... you run the car hard when its cold (like right from the lanes at your local 1320). I have even been known to use an ISO9000 250wt from time to time.... (obviously for specific set-ups).

Now when it comes down to the use of dyno or syn..... you can use either with what you have. But, if you use a full syn, use a real syn.... not some cheap light weight junk synthetic lube. I have used full syn's from LE, Amsoil and Torco without any problems in friction and non-friction type differentials..... and that says a lot to me because I dont like using a full syn in differentials from/for my own reasoning.

On another note, Ric summed up the need and/or use for a 'gear type' non-friction related differential and the use of friction modifier..... it isnt needed.

On all the paper work from moser and strange that I have, It says do not use synthetic oil. I was told that it would void any warranty I would have on the parts. I got my rear-end from billingsley. 9" locker, Moser housing with iron Strange center section. I use non-synthetic. That's what the manufactuer says so that's what I am doing. If I have a problem, I don't what to have to worry about it being anything that I did. That's my 2 cents anyway.....

Also, from what I have heard, since you have a locker, your don't need the additive. It's mainly for limited slip diff's. Not an expert myself but this is what my research has turned up.

Ran a locker since 2003 with synthetic. Not a problem with the locker or bearings. If you look at a exploded view of locker , you will see the simplicity of it. No friction plates or rings to worry about.
Now running a trutrac with synthetic no problems in this setup.
I really beat these setups on roadcourses where extended heat and pressure are constant.

Moser will not warrant their set up rear's if you use synthetic. I dont get the whole hype with synthetic. I am running $2 a quart autozone non-syn. fluiod in mine now for about 2500 miles, and no problems at all.

A locker will make noise in turns and also coast-to-drive. You can use synthetic if you want, like many have said already it wont hurt anything. And, like also said already you do not need additive.

Quick Reply: why cant you use synthetic oil on a 9 inch locker set up??
