Default what gears to get

ok i was wondering what gear to get, i have a b4c stock camaro, basically a z28, 2000 and its an auto, and the other night i rode with a friend that had a 98 z28 stock with just gears and an auto, and that thing pulled hard, when he barelly even hit the ga he would throw your head in the seat easiley, and when he put it to the floor he would brake the tires loose at arounrd 20-25, i was wondering what gears u think i should get, i prolly will never go to the track i just wanna fun street car to mess around in, to pull real hard from down low like his did, and do u guys think that 4.10 gears would be good for my car, and what would my top end be

4.10 are to large for the 4l60e, if you enjoy going a 100+ on the highway, the 4.10 will rev to high, Hell, I have 29.5 tires and going 150 for example with the 4.10 that would be 7100 rpms, just go with with the 3.73

3.73 are the overall best choice in an auto that sees mostly street. if you are more into strip than street and are eventually going to turn 7000 rpms traps, then 4.10.

define ALOT. and what gears do you have now? most likely 3.23 being a B4C. yes, it will pull more and you'll notice it.

and to answer your question about top end. in theory you'd have a top end of 160.
6003 rpm = 160 * 4.10 * .7 * 336 / 25.7
rpm = mph * rear gear * OD * 336 / tire diameter. things like aerodynamics and power play a role in what your actual top end would be.

if you have 323s now, the 373s will not make much of a difference. i say this because a friend of mine has a b4c camaro, 2000, similar to yours. my car with just gears BARELY pulled his car out of the hole (maybe by a fender at the top of 1st) and from a 40 roll we were dead even. if you want a big jump you need to go 410s. I doubt you'd need OD in the 1/4 with a "stock car" - gears only. however, if you plan to make much more hp than stock, you'll being going into OD at the track. (not a good thing on your tranny)

Does anyone know how much of gain in a 1/4 mile changing from a 2.73 to a 3.73 gear? Can a stock 10 bolt handle the added stress?

my 373 swap from 273 got me 1.5 mph and .25 et in the 1/4. as a factory 273 car you have the option of getting a "thick" ring gear. which is thicker than those offered for the other carriers. i don't know of its longevity, but the rearends themselves aren't built to handle a lot of power. i have had 373s in my car for 2 months now, i also installed a transgo shift kit (full race) and a whisper lid. it now has what i would call HARSH shifts, and the rearend seems to be holding up fine. i have MANY passes and HARD launches on it.

If you're not increasing the HP, would there be more stress? I wouldn't think it would hurt the 10 bolt anymore than the 2.73.

Don't let people who haven't had 4.10's in an auto steer you clear of them. The only problem is that they do rev higher on the freeway, which you probably already knew. Aside from that, you're city gas mileage will go up as long as you don't drive it too hard. 4.10's in an auto will really waken it up.

i would think that 373s would lessen the load on the rearend simply because they make the tires easier to turn.
