Default Factory Hurst Vs. Pro-5.0

Can anyone tell me if it is worth buying the Pro-5.0 to replace my Factory Hurst Short Throw Shifter?

Well, I've got one waiting to be installed and the difference (visually) is like night and day. I did a zillion searches on this subject and the consensus is that we never shoulda paid for the hurst in the first place. I'll sell mine in a few weeks.

I switched from the factory Hurst to the Pro 5.0 and I would recommend it. The Pro 5.0 has a totally different feel and a much more positive shift to me. Worlds apart.

The hurst isnt bad at all...so dont expect a HUGE difference, however, to me it was worth the $180 for the switch to the Pro5.0.

The hurst is waaaaaaay better than the stock crap most people have though, so if $180 is hard for you to come by, spend it on other mods.

I've tried the stock shifer, the factory hurst (w/ lou's short stick) and the pro 5.0...the pro 5.0 is definitely the best! Take the plunge it's well worth it

The Hurst in my opinion sucks compared to the Pro 5.0, I always said that I would always stick with the hurst until I tried the Pro 5.0, it was amazing...

I got one for sale for $140 if anyone is interested..... Its practically brand new

The Pro 5.0 is as good as it gets. I had the Hurst in my 2002 SS from the factory and I was always missing shifts at the track. I kept hitting the gate between 3rd and 5th 30% of the time under wide open throttle runs.

Once I got the Pro 5.0, I have never missed a shift, and it just feels so good.

Only downside to the Pro 5.0 is the increased transmission noise that is brought into the car from the shifter. It makes more noise then the stock shifter because the stock shifter has a thick rubber mount on the bottom of it. But if you leave in that rubber mount, then you get a crappy, rubber feeling shift.

I wouldn't go back for anything. My 2nd to 3rd shifts are flawless now thanks to their built in 2nd to 3rd assist they have engineered into it. It is perfect for racing.

Dan

man, my pro 5.0 must have been built on a friday or something. i hated it. i missed more shifts with that than the factory hurst. i would miss second about 75% of the time. i missed third about the same number of times as the hurst. i took it out after about a week and put the hurst back in, but i put the pro 5.0 stick on it and it was great. but i had to take it off because i sold the pro 5.0.

Its skill involved too I guess....I never missed a shift with it, I found it impossible...

With the factory Hurst, I could never find 3rd gear under WOT shifts - and I have always been a good driver. It was really frustrating - I never missed lightning fast shifts under part throttle, but with the Hurst, forget about it at full throttle.

With the Pro 5.0, I no longer have that problem. Shifting is lightning fast, I do not miss, and feel much better driving the car. I give a big endorsement to the Pro 5.0.

I have had them both and like both, this in itself probably doesn't help, but to compare:

The Pro 5.0 is more notchy and solid. It does produce more transmission noise. I rarely, if ever, missed a 2-3 shift.

I only have about 400 miles on my hurst (just bought an '02), but so far I really like it. It is quieter and not quite as notchy. However, it is a little less firm, a little closer to the stock POS shifter on my '99. I like the shift action with the hurst just as well to be honest. I am thinking of selling my Pro 5.0 as a result.

I had the factory Hurst in my T/A and had no problems and really liked the stick, but then I replaced it with the Pro 5.0 and had it cur down about an inch and a half. Man what a diffrence, I LOVE the Pro 5.0, shifts are pure every time. I left the boot on -> noise level stayed the same as the stock. Like I said I thought that the stick hurst was a great shifter until I installed the Pro 5.0 man it is well worth it. Give Izzo a call he will give you a great deal on the Pro 5.0. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out....Michael

I bought the 5.0. The throw seems to be the same, but the shifts are more positive after I got the set screws right. I think my 3rd gear synchronizer is hurt from all the misshifts. I would like to get short shifts, What can I do?

Until yesterday I had the factory Hurst with a Lou's short stick, I didn't think it was that bad, until last night after I installed a Hurst Billet Plus. Today I say it doesn't matter what you replace it (the factory Hurst)with , just replace it, it's a night and day difference. I basically changed mine just to have something to do but I'm VERY glad I made the swap. Jimmy

i've been reading numerous posts about the top 3 shifters and i decided to go with the 5.0. my only question is: what's a 'lou's short stick'?. where can i see what that looks like? is it much shorter than the others? i have a hurst right now and i cant say that i do not like it but really, i just want to achieve a shorter throw.
i would like to rest my arm on the console and just have my hand rest on the shifter comfortably without my hand actually having to be raised. (i hope i explained that right)
someone else mentioned something similar so i hope to find my answer. do i have to buy lou's shifter separately? thanks for the info.

Put my pro 5.0 in yesterday. fells a little notchy and definately more positive on the throws. i'll have to wait another 400 miles to tell you if it shifts great under wot though, (just put in clutch too)
