Angry what could be rong?

i just installed the poly trans mount on my car lastnight, it helped the banging of the y-pipe a little but i dont think it was worth all the viberations i get. it just seems soo uncomfterble to drive now.

after i installed my new 10 bolt ive been getting this vib comeing from the back of the car. and with the mount it got worse which makes me think its my drive shaft. i got my wheels ballenced and it didnt help, what else could i look into that might be causing this...... i can feel it through the center consull and in the seat and it only does it 50mph and above.

please help me!

The trans mount does cause more vibrations, you do know this right? The drive shaft could be out of balance though, get it respun.

You can always try pulling the driveshaft and reinstalling it 180* from where it is now. We used to do that at the dealership to get rid of vibrations and it worked a fair amount of the time.

already done that, it sisnt help. the weird thing is the drive shaft was fine with my old rearend and when i put this other one in it started this. i doubt its the rearend b/c it only has around 40k miles on it.

does anyone know how much motormount install will run me? i might put em on my self if the price is too high.

It sounds as if that rear end is the main source of your problem...might be bent axles, or anything of that nature.

As for the poly tranny mount, if you used the preload plate, don't. Those will definitely cause more vibrations.

that would be just my luck haveing a bent axle. when i bought the car it had a bent axle so i bought a rearend from a guy on this board out of his M6. the weird thing it the rearend does not make any noise at all. my old one would whine and all that good stuff but this one is quiet as can be. you can tell the vib is from something spinning tho b/c it varrys ( high low high low). i have noticed around the pinion that it is leaking a little, but nothing major.

If the poly tranny mount changed your pinion angle, that could also be the source of your vibration.

My suggestion. Grind the preload bumps off the tranny mount & don't not use the spacers plate. That should get rid of most of the vibration.

if it was a bent axle would it not make a noise? i meen, i have the other axle out of my old rearend that wasnt bent, but what would be a good way to check for a bent axle?

to me it feels like something is out of ballence. anywhere below 50-55 its as smooth as can be, but once i get to 50 and up and not too smooth anymore.

about the preload bumps.... what exactly ate you talking about? if someone could get me some pictures it would really help. do all poly mounts have preload bumps?

thanks for tha help, ryan

alright, ima go take it back in tha shop here ina bit and take it off and file thoes bumps down. i might also try the washer trick that was mentioned in that post. ill let you guys know how it goes later on tonight.

as for maybe haveing a bent axle..... what would be the best way to diagnose this problem? i talked to the guy and he said he no problem with viberations in his car with it in, the rearend only has 40k miles give or take a little.

thanks, ryan

welp, i got it all back togeather and put some washers between the cross member and the floor. it got rid of all of the viberations and the y-pipe hitting the floor except on hard acceleration.

but still at 55 mph a viberation starts and its almost unbarable, how can i diagnose this problem.

i found me a driveshaft for free, im going to install it today and see if that it the problem. if thats not it im guessing an axle is bent.

i was thinking about the pinion angle but with a stock rearend and stock tq arm it doesnt seem like the pinion angle would be off. what do you guys think about this?

1st the driveshaft is either bet or out of ballence, i replaced it with one from my friends wrecked 99 t/a and no more bad viberations!

2ed did they put aluminum DS's in 98 ls1 cars? mine didnt have a aluminum drive shaft and my friends 99 did (which is now in mine)
