Those are the brake backing plates, which the brakes bolt to. Bob

easy to reuse stock ones. only you will need to dismantle your 10-bolt to get to them, and then have them put on the axles for your 9", and the bearing is pressed over them. What does this mean, you car will be without a rear end untill your 9" is complete. If thats not a problem, then just reuse the stock ones. Or, do what I did and to to a parts yard and buy a couple backing plates off a fbod 10-bolt. maybe 20 bucks each.

is this not something that can be done when taking your 10 bolt off? like take it off ur car, then take the backing plates off, then put em on in a manner of say, an hour? or is the process much longer? bc the rear is being swapped out, not used on another car.

not unless you have your own press. heres why, if you stand the DS axle on its end, lugs towards the ground, you would need to drop the DS backing plate onto the shaft, and then the bearing onto the shaft to then be pressed on. Which means the backing plates can not come off unless you remove the pressed on bearing. On your 9" just make sure you have the correct DS on the correct side, cause they are not equal length. plus make sure the backing plat is sitting on the axle properly b4 you press the bearing.. kind of hard to explain but just use the stock rear as reference on how the backing plates should look.

if you have a place that can press them on nearby, like an O'rielys, then sure, it shouldnt take more than an hour, as long as the center is built already and all your waiting on is to slide in the axles, then bolt the backing plates to the axle tubes.
