Well, my ss has over 90k on it. Made at least 50 passes last year on DRs. Seems to be holding up fine for now. But its also an auto and its only got some basic boltons so hopefully it will last a while.

Autos are definitely less stressful on the 10 bolt rear than the T-56 is. I know the diff in my car was taken out well before I owned the car. That was at about 80k miles. I'm at 145k now and I'm afraid every time I try to 1->2 shift.

This is the REASON for sidewall flex.
this is incorrect, it's the vibrations and all the wheel hop like many in this thread have already mentioned that breaks, if anything sticky tires including DRs help prevent this! now this of course is what I have seen and told by the LS1 guru's in the dfw area!

Sorry but that's not correct..... YES wheel hop does break rear ends but it will break ANY rear end. Besides wheel hop breaks axle shafts. Axle shafts aren't the actual weak link in the 7.5" 10 bolt.

besides 99% of people break their rear end because of shock.... not vibrations.

Wheel hop is a suspension issue not a tire issue.

WS6 has 135K on it. I made 424RWHP and 389RWTQ. Been to the track once for 3 passes and I drove the **** out of it when I was stationed in Germany in the army. No telling if Diff was replaced by the previous owner, I bought the car with 80K on it. The only mod I have done to the rear end is a diff cover and synthetic fluid. Waiting till it breaks and Imma get a dana s60.

My old Auto WS6 has well north of 140K on it and as far as I know the gentleman I sold it to hasnt replaced the rear end yet. It is a cam only auto car with a stall and made 30+ passes on DRs with the rear that's in the car now.

I'm in the same boat with an M6 car, 10 bolt rear, 3.42 gears, 315 nitto NT05 tires. Best 60' so far 1.9xx. Mild H/C car, 430/407 rwhp/tq.

I'd really like the peace of mind to be able to drive 3+ hours to a track, flog the car, and know it will drive home.

For you guys who say you are 'waiting' for it to break before you upgrade to a 12 bolt/9 inch, are you just anticipating that it will break at the track and are just planning to call a tow truck to tow you home? That just seems like a terrible day to me...

Ten bolt here-all year beating on it. Maybe 60 passes on it with sixty foots in 1.7-1.6.
Got a fresh one on car now since the one in it was wrong(had a 3 channel swapped in it and its a 4 channel car).

I just got my 98 SS 6spd a few days ago. I put some DRs on it today and the first time I mashed it and shifted to 2nd I killed the ten bolt. Unbelievable how little it took to snap it. I do NOT see how anyone can run 10s and 11s with them.

stalls and slicks lessen the shock to the rear.the slick side wall gives alot more then a DR.

jesus people. i love u all. but its gonna grenade. Trust me so many factors make a huge difference. But my stock rear was touched by very good builder with 410's and its holding. Like i said. It makes noise now after lauches with no side step but slipping off 2 step with DR. But so many things come into if break or not. I guess u could say bad ?. And for this comment. For you guys who say you are 'waiting' for it to break before you upgrade to a 12 bolt/9 inch, are you just anticipating that it will break at the track and are just planning to call a tow truck to tow you home? That just seems like a terrible day to me... Yeah everyone isnt as blessed as others and like to enjoy what they have at the track. Trust me i am saving for S60. But for the while im beating the **** out of my 10 bolt with a smile along with a trailer. Couldnt be happier. Peace.

I recently spoke to Scott Settlemire at a car show and asked him why we got stuck with the 10 bolt in a joking manner and his response was the WS6 was within 3lbs of a being classified under a different vehicle class. They had intentions of a stronger one but didn't feel it was worth it for the small % who use these cars to their potential.. just a FYI
