Default Rear vibrations after burnout...what did I break?

I was driving in 1st at 3500rpms and floored it. I heard a bang from the rear and then started to feel vibrations...almost like I had a flat tire or something. What could I have broken? The vibrations happen at any speed and come from the rear of the car. When I increase the speed I also hear a loud banging noise comming from the trunk area.

It seems like I'm always breaking stuff on my car

Thanks RaNsOm...I was informed by another member that it could be anything....I'm just going to jack her up and crawl under there with a light and hope for the best!

could be carrier too, gm rears are infamous for sheering off the carrier pin and letting it vibrate. then when your just cruisin about 10mph the pin gives the rest of the way and your rearend eats itself and it feels like you slammed on the brakes, then you look under there with it in drive and your driveshaft is steady spinning but guess what... there is no forward motion

did it feel like someone took a sledgehammer to the bottom of your car when you were driving it.. because thats what it felt like when my tq arm broke.. a couple days later i heard a similar noise, but more like a grenade, that was my 10 bolt.

i'm going to go out on a limb and guess you bent the driveshaft or snapped a u-joint. that'll cause vibrations for sure at nearly any speed.

d'oh! *idiot* i didn't read the entire post...at least i was right on the driveshaft...

This is a fairly common problem, as the factory torque arm is made out of stamped steel and is flimsy. I notice many of them start to bend about six inches forward of the rear-end.
The adjustable Spohn 405 torque arm is a bolt on part that eliminates mounting the front of the torque arm to the transmission tailshaft, eliminating stress on the tranny. I highly recommend it. Bob

It felt more like someone to a jackhammer to the bottom of my car!

The car was shaking pretty crazy on the way to my garage

I ended up ordering the UMI T/A....now I just got to wait for it to arrive!

I just got back from the track and my slip yoke bushing came out of the tailshaft and caused the car to vibrate and it did make a loud bang right when it happened. Check the slip yoke and see if it moves easily up and down.
