I would say maybe +/- 10 hp loss, but your peak power will arrive quicker.

I've heard this debated a number of times, and I still think it's more of a myth.

FWIW, I dyno'd my car ('02 Z28 in sig) with an A4 and 4.10 gears, and it put 289 HP / 307 TQ at the wheels. Well if you do the math, that shows about an ~18% loss off of 350 flywheel HP. Sounds reasonable for an auto, eh? I'm not convinced it would dyno and higher with the factory 2.73 gears.

Now that I put the 6-speed in the car (sorry, sig isn't updated yet) I would expect to see around ~310 HP at the wheels (about a ~12% loss). But again, I wouldn't expect to see very different #'s whether I dyno'd it with the 3.23's that are currently in there, or 4.10's .

Unless somebody can post before & after evidence of this, I wave the BS flag.

Blah, who cares about the dyno #'s.

IMO the 4.10's really wake the car up and deliver the power much earlier. You'll sacrifice a bit on the top end, but it's worth it.

I did not do a before after on the 4.10's, but I did add an LS6 intake manifold at the same time and dyno's the same as before. So I'm guessing the 4.10's cancled out the intake. So that makes me guess the rwhp loss is 10rwhp +/-

Oh yeah, I also did the spec stage 3F clutch & billet steel flywheel at the same time.

Depends on what you use the car for.

4.10s will probably lose you 5-10 rwhp, but by seat of the pants it will feel like you've picked up 15-20.

I calculate a 100% loss in HP to the wheels when you break the 10 bolt!

It's a moot point. The gears are one of the best things you can do to improve your performance--by multiplying torque. The horsepower issue doens't mean anything except for dyno comparisons.
