Default Do I need to upgrade my stock tranny with these mods????

I'm getting an ARE 436 (I expect at least 450 RWHP/450 RWTQ), Strange 12 Bolt w/ 3.73's.

Will my stock 4L60E handle it with the rather small 3000rpm stall converter that I'm using. I was under the impression that the higher stalls is what kills your tranny. What about the 1-2 shift, is that harder on the tranny than the launch?

I won't be going to the track at all, just street driving.

Thanks

I dont know for sure.. but at the power you'll probably be putting out a built trans is definetly something to look into... The 4L60E is a great trans for stock setups but I haven't heard many good things about them w/built cars... Might be better upgrading to a TH350 or TH400... though then you loose some streetability

If you get to where you can R&R your tranny then keep the 4L60E. New clutches and bands and fluids to rebuild it are less than $50. I have a local rebuilder do it at his house for $100. It takes me about 2 1/2 to pull the tranny and put it back in and it takes him 1/2 a day to go through it.

Interesting! But can something bad happen, like breaking it beyond repair?

What actually breaks when people talk about " oh man, I just blew my tranny at the track"?

Thanks

I wish I could find out quick. If all I need to do is spend $100, evan if it's 3 times a year, that's 8 years at the price for a built 4L60E from FLP.

What do they change about the tranny anyway, how do they make it better and stronger?

Thanks

Just order a rebuild kit from level 10 and it will hold up or from FLP.There is no need to spend 2400 IMO on a good tranny that just needs to be built up.

How much $$$ is a level 10 kit?

Will it be just as strong as an FLP level VI, which is what I think the shop mentioned to me.

FLP does not sell an upgrade kit & level 10 upgrade kit is junk. I know someone with a blown 2000 C5 (400rwhp) & level 10 upgrade kit did not stand for more than 3 months

When you say it didn't hold up, what happened to it? Totally gone or did it just need a simple overhaul?
Did he race it at the track allot?

I don't remember exactly what went wrong, other than the 3-4 clutches & some drum?. He did not race it on the track, it blew on him on his way to work.
It is very important that you get a transmission oil cooler. If the tranny oil gets too hot then it won't survive for long no matter who builds it.

Give Art Carr a call. They set me up with a great kit for my C5 A4. It really shifted nicely, lightning fast. Supposedly good for 800hp. (I wasn't anywhere near that.)
