Default Buddy's 9" 380hp LT1 Formula

Well my buddy took his 95 Formula M6 to the track tonight to test out his 9" Rear that has under 150miles on it all part's brand new. His car is full bolt on Head/Cam set up he made 381hp\380lbs at the wheel's 2 week's ago on a dyno jet in Lexington Ky.

Good runing LT1 car

Here is the damage :brick:

A little track prep before he went to the starting line.

The Ride Home for the Formula

He was runing Et Street Radials

Mabe next time he can get more than 1 pass down the 1/8th

Wow, that really sucks and probably shouldn't have happened. I've seen cammed LS1s with ET streets not breaking a stock 4.10 geared 10 bolt.

I've seen stock powered M6 f bodies break these rears, so it doesn't surprise me. Those are truly some awesome pictures though! Bob

believe it. that's my car happened last night at kanawha valley dragstrip in west virginia.

I really don't know how it broke with only 380rwhp on street radials(albeit with vht). hell, I only came off the line at 3500rpm, then clunk, pow, clang clang clang is all I heard.

I'm gonna talk to the guy that built the centersection for me ( I feel sooo dirty for having someone else do work for me ) and see what kinda deal he'll work out on fixing it, cuz it shouldn't have broke under those conditions. I'm gonna try out a strange nodular case with a daytona pinion support this time.

I broke one in my friend's LT1 on the street shifting to 2nd gear. He also had about 380 rwhp. Was running some cheap kumho 315's, but apparently had enough power to bust the whole front off just like the pictures.

they are as long as you dont use an old style center, everyone thinks there so strong but there not, if you build a 9" spend the extra to get a good N center.

I've seen many 9 inch rears break like that. Looks like he walked the pinion up the gearset. You have to run a newer nodular center section or you have to make sure to run pinion supports in the older design.

The pinion sopport prob wasnt torqued or the bolts worked loose... Plus people cant get the concept that those OE peices have been sitting in some truck or wrecking yard for 30 years and have a hundred or so thousand miles on them The sock stuff is crap it would be like putting a used set of heads on your motor...
