Let’s talk about aftermarket TC lifespan...(kind of a poll)
All the Yank issues I’ve been reading about lately had me thinking. It’d be interesting to see how many miles different people have gotten out of their TCs without any problems or needs for replacement. Basically, give us the brand and model of TC, and any other info you feel is important about your setup. And how many trouble free miles have you gotten out of the TC(s), or how long did it take till an issue arose? I will start:
Yank
SY3500
About 2 years and 5000 miles (I don’t drive the car much )
Been in two different trannies, currently resides in a vacuum modulated & fully raced prepped 4L60E
No issues to speak of (except intermittent lock up due to cam misfires, LS1 Edit is on the way to fix this no lockup issues before cam)

Re: Let’s talk about aftermarket TC lifespan...(kind of a poll)
I know someone who has 65,000 trouble free miles on a Pro Torque 2900, the car is a 97 Vette.
I have 1200 trouble free miles and counting on my PT2400. My car is a 98 Vette.

Re: Let’s talk about aftermarket TC lifespan...(kind of a poll)
I had about a years worth of trouble free operation from my yank tp4400. But, one day while doing a rolling punch from about 15 mph the flex plate and the convertor stopped getting along and all 3 convertor lugs broke off. The flex plate ate ****, and the bell housing had about 5 two-inch around holes in it.
Too much torque!
Mike@yank fixed me up and had me back on the road in 2 weeks.
Now that I think of it I would say this was a flexplate issue and not a torque convertor issue, but still its one we should all be aware of.

I had a Yank ST-3500 in for about 2,500 miles with zero problems.
I upgraded to a Yank PT-4400, which has approximately 1,200 miles on it with no problems.

These are some good responses! Hopefully we might be able to see a pattern about certain ‘verters being good or bad as the replies increase. We also have now seen a couple of high mileage replies (30,000+) which is good to know.
Keep ‘em coming

I had an old used Yank 2800 that was installed in my '98 Z28 in March of '99. After over 40,000 miles it was still going strong when I traded the car in.

TP4000E: 3,000 miles, no problems
TP4400: 3,500 miles and still going with no problems. Although when I first received the converter there was a fitment issue. The mounts were too long and it would not fit in between the flexpalte and trans.
later,
Steve

ProTorque 2900... 1 yr about 10K miles and kaboom. Total rebuild on transmission due to convertor failure. Performance so so.
Yank Thruster Pro~4000... 1.5 yrs/20K miles performance good, but always had chatter. Lock up works, but unlocks too easily. Big improvement over ProTorque.
Now thinking the convertor is a little too loose for me, considering a PE 3200 -3500

Re: Let’s talk about aftermarket TC lifespan...(kind of a poll)
I have had 4 yanks, none with more than about 4000 miles on them:
TT2800: worked perfect. Very disappointed that Yank dropped this model.
ST 3500: I had the prototype, with a kevlar clutch. Lock-up Clutch chattered after a few thousand miles. (Kevlar was not used in the production models and the kevlar used in the YTP line was also changed )
YTP 4000: no problems.
YTP 4200: Clutch chatter in OD lock-up under certain throttle inputs and loads. Eliminated by programming with Edit.

Re: Let’s talk about aftermarket TC lifespan...(kind of a poll)
Yank TT2800. This little booger has about 30,000 miles behind a head/cam/nitrous 98 Camaro and has been bulletproof. Just picked up my new 2002 Z28 today. I'll be swapping the convertor into it in a few days. I'll be honest and say that I have been expecting it to die ever since I went with the heavy mods...459 rwhp...but it refuses to die. Mike makes a killer product!

Good replies so far. This is what we need to get together a good base of what ‘verters are holding up and what isn’t.
I wonder if anyone on here has some really high miles on any ‘verters? Wonder what we can expect out of them mileage wise?

More good replies!
Lets see if we can get some more people with higher miles on the bigger Yanks and Vigs.
Everyone tell us about your ‘verters!
