Default Official 9 inch vibration thread

I am about to get a 9" inch rear. I have heard about the leaks and can deal with that, but, I also hear they have vibrations with them too. I really want to stick with the 9 because I do NOT want the whine. I thought maybe I could ask the opinions of those that have the rear, or, knowledge on them as to what the problem is and why they vibrate. Vibration is a big concern for me as they do not seem to vibrate on Ford cars, so, why ours? Is it that the Camaros are having organ transplant rejection problems, lol? I just thought this could be a main thread to talk about this particular problem and figure out once and for all what can fix it.

Hey roy, thanks for stopping by and saying hey. Can you give me/us a little insight as to your setup? Where you got the rear from (if thats allowed) gear choice, where you got the center section, type of posi, drive shaft, tranny, stock/aftermarket sway bars etc.... Maybe if everyone does this, it can help pinpoint problems.

The only other two options I see are pinion angles being a problem and the drive shaft being not on center. Getting the pinion/transmission anles would be a big help also if anyone is interested in checking them.

Seams most people just need to square the rear under the car and get the right pinion angle from what I read.

I didnt know you could "square" the rear? Does this mean one needs to buy adjustable control arms and an adjustable torque arm braket? Any links to a writeup or info? I mean, "I" could dig it up myself and such, but, for the threads sake.

yes, to square the rear end, you measure the distance from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel and make sure it is equal on each side. also make sure your axle is centered between the wheel wells. then you have to adjust the pinion anywhere from 1-3 degrees flatter than pointing directly at the trans.

I thought, depending where it is perfectly parallel with the output shaft, that the outputshaft angle needs to be the same as the input shaft angle on the rear? Maybe that is your flatter?

1BadAzzWS6, did you just bolt up and go? All stock parts you bolted up to?
