the only thing w/ his 3rd member is it's a 4.10 gear ratio,my car is a A4
it still mite be whorth changing the gear.
plus he'll help me install a new rear end.
I'm checking into buying a 9" houseing w/ axels to see if it mite be whorth building one.
do all 9" houseings have these 3 holes for the TA bracket?
Thanks for any advice

? will the axel bearings have to be pressed on after the brakes are installed.
or are they allready pressed on? I don't have a way to press on axel bearings will I have to assemble this up then tow it to a shop to have the bearings pressed on?
how will I know if the 3rd member yoke is for a 1310 U-joint, read here it's a PITA to install a 1350 U-joint to stock DS?
Thanks

The yoke on the 3rd member will most likely need to be replaced since it may be a different type of DS used in the ford vehicle. For example the yoke on my mustang rear is a large circular flange, and the driveshaft mounting is different. So when you replace this yoke on the 3rd member you can get one for either 1310 or 1350 u joint.
The stock driveshaft can be switched to a 1350 u joint quite easily actually. Alot of places sell a conversion u joint for the stock Driveshaft to do this, you can switch it yourself or have a shop do it for you. I bought the conversion u joint at a local shop that does driveline work on heavy duty trucks, and they they installed it on my driveshaft for free because i had it with me. Took them about 5 minutes.
I may be able to get LT1 backing plates can these be used to press the axel baerings on?
what I want is a rear end allready to install when I need it? meaning use the existing U-joint (which is preaty strong allready right?)
Thanks
And you can buy a yoke for your 9" 3rd member so you can reuse your stock driveshaft and U joint. Looks like your only issue is finding the correct backing plates.
this may take some time at least I'm getting good infor for this project.
Lastly for right now what do you think about the 37 year old 3rd member replacing the yok seams OK for a buget 9"?
will just replacing the bearings & pinoin seal be OK if carrier looks good?
Thanks
