yep, I did it last night with my stock rear, M^ and 3.42's!!!
Ran 4 times at KCIR with almost new ET streets.
Launched at 5000, 5500, 5500 and 6000.
my best 60' on 6000 being 1.68 and ran a 11.70@118.7 having a horrible 2nd gear shift and hitting the limiter in 3rd just before the traps.
I thought STOCK 3.42 rear ends were weak?????

Lucky? I don't really think thats the case...
How many times do you actually hear of someone breaking a completely untouched stock 3:42 rear end? NOT that often. The 10 bolts that break are the ones who have been torn down once, and have steeper/thinner gears.
There are several 500+ rwhp Blown LT1's here in Atlanta running stock geared untouched 10 bolts, and then don't break. I have watched a personal friend leave off the limiter on slicks with his 2001 Z28, and 25K miles later his 3:42 rear end is still in the car.
3:42's suck, but if you leave them untouched they can take some abuse.....

I blew my SS's rear on the freeway speed shifting to 4th gear on bald F1s with a SPEC stage 3 carbon clutch, 365RWHP. My 2000 WS6's rear is still holding up, its stock. When Rapid Motorsports did my H/C, clutch, 12 bolt 414 RWHP package; I kept my Stage 3 carbon clutch since it only had 700 miles on it. When the WS6's throw out bearing took a crap I took it in for warranty. My buddy is a Tech at the dealer and he worked on the WS6. GM would only replace the throw-out bearing, so while he had my clutch out he threw the SPEC clutch in for free(without the SErvice manager knowing of course ) and gave me the OEM clutch in the box, incase I have a future problem and need warranty work he can swap in the OEM clutch prior to GM rep looking at the car if needed! Any way At Ford vs GM day this past August we ran the WS6 with my 26x10.5x16 ET STREETS and dumped the clutch at 3000-4500 and finally a last pass at almost 5700. We ran the car about 10 passes with no problems, except once I didn't get the tires wet enough and the left rear wouldn't spin during the burnout, but that only happened once. To this day we beat on the car and its not even howling or whining yet! Some rears were just put together better then others I guess.

This is just a crap shoot for many. My rear end held up to over 100 launches at the track, roughly ~4000 to 4500. I eventually fragged the posi while driving on the street, go figure.
The automatic guys tend to not tear up the rear ends as much as the manuals. But even that is purely dependent on the car. If it holds up for you then great. I'd still be saving cash for the 12 bolt when this one checks out on you.
