Default Is your aftermarket rear-end as quiet as a brand-new 10-bolt?

I have a daily-driven 2002 Z28 with the A4 and I will eventually replace my factory 10-bolt. My goal is to eventually run consistent 11's and have between 450-475 rwhp to do so. After using the search button and reading a lot of the threads here, not one person ever said that their aftermarket rear-end was actually quiet. (When I say quiet, I mean quiet as a the factory 10-bolt on a brand-new f-body!!!) Right now, I'm leaning towards a Strange 12-bolt since they come already fully assembled and have excellent torque arm provisions. What are my chances of having a quiet rear-end? What aftermarket rear-end is the quietest? Thanks in advance for the info.

how quiet the rear is doesnt really depend on which brand you get. its who set up the gears and how thorough they were. when you get the 12 bolt or whatever you decide on you should bring it in to a reputable gear/rear end shop and have the pattern looked over just to double check.

+1

I know people that have build junkyard 9"s that are whisper quiet, and I know other people with Strange rears that howl. It depends on the cut of the gears and how well it's set up. I will tell you that set to the exact same tolerances in my Moser 12-bolt 3.90's were much louder than my 4.11's.

Actually my 9 inch going down the road is not whiny or anything, but it is a clunky SOB around the corners and stuff from what I've heard its just a tradeoff by having the tru trac rather than a standard posi....

My 3.90's are dead quiet. Windows up, radio off, no noise at all.

Now after a few hard launches that might change.

mine is quieter than the 10 bolt, but my 10 bolt absolutely screamed. The 12 bolt is barely noticeable though.

Kinda unfair to ask this. 10 bolts dont take the beating 12 bolts do. My 12 bolt was quiet as **** til I put a big cube motor in my car and started beating on the rear a little....now it makes a little noise, but the 10 bolt would have been toast long ago....

But there are some 12 bolts..... like the moser my friend has that are so loud the person in the back cant even here the people in the front seat talking! So loud that you can HEAR it when you're driving next to the car over corsa exhaust! Now thats ridiculus!

My Moser 12-bolt with 3.90s has been incredibly loud since day one. It's so bad, in fact, that it's hard to hear the exhaust over the gears.

my 12 bolt is pretty quiet, but I have only started driving it.

There is some gear noise but not much. Scott at Driveline Solutions built my moser 12 bolt.

My s60 w/4.10's howls around 40-65 mph. Other than that it drives like stock, with no clunking or anything.

Nope, my moser 9" 35 spline locker whines pretty good under decel, prly makes ppl wonder what i got under the hood. I dont care if it whines a little the exhaust makes enough noise already, these arent family cars!
