You obviously have something very wrong. Did you replace the entire rear or just the diff?

whoever replaced the diff had to remove the axles so therefor the brakes came off. from what you said it sounds like after the diff was replaced the brakes started grinding. take the calipers off and have a look at whats going on.

Brakes are what they are...A new diff won't interfere at all, and to install it you only unbolt the calipers and slide off the rotors. Pull the wheels off and see what is causing the grinding. I would assume that you will clearly see the problem.

i would guess the backing plate might have been bent and is rubbing the rotor check it out bend it away from the rotor and see if it stops. Also is this constant grinding or only while applying the brakes?

alright that makes me think that the backing plate is rubbing. wait do we even have a backing plate on the rear? or possibly be a clip on the inside by the pads. just becasue theres no marks doesn't mean that it could be them it could be grinding some where you wouldn't think it would.

There is a sheet metal guard (for lack of another word) that fits very close and within the emergency brake portion of the rotors, which is attached via the backing plate. If it is bent or askew, it will rub the rotor and make a nice grinding noise.

I had the same things happen to me and I was never able to figure out what was causing the rotors to grind. It only happened in reverse when turning.
In my case, I had swapped the entire rear-end for another 10-bolt...I got the rotors turned and it hasn't done it since.
I thought I was nuts, so I didn't post anything about it...but since someone else is having the same problem...I thought I would!
