Default 9" question (stud related)

Im fixing to change out stud on my 9" with ARP's, so I guess ill have to pull the axles to press em in. My question is, if I drain the center section gear oil and jack up a little on the axle tube, is there gonna be gear oil leaking out of my axle tube when I pull the axle? Is there any easier way to change out studs? I appreciate any input.

Use a C-clamp and a socket to press the new studs back in. Should be able to knock the old ones out with a hammer.

You will have to have the axle bearings pressed off. Once you do that unscrew them from the axle flange, and screw new ones in. Oh yea I dont think yopu have have to much gear oil leak out if you do one side at a time. I didnt have any at all doing it that way.

So your talking about "wheel" studs? Knock the old ones out with a hammer and have the new ones pressed in. Drawing the new ones in with a spacer isnt recommended but it has been done before succesfully. I have put them in with a large bench vise and a socket before also.

If it's the screw in studs, you can replace them without removing the axles. I know, I've done it. If you have the hole in the backing plate, for the ABS or TCS or something, you can put the new studs in through that. If not, you can drill a hole where the sensor normally goes. That's what I ended up doing. Had to cut the heads off of the studs that came in the rear cuz they wouldn't fit through the hole.

You should have seals in the axle tube that will help with keeping the residual fluid in, since you are draining the center section, I don't see a problem. You should not have any leaks after draining the cs when you pull out the axle.
