Default damn moser 12 bolt leaking at pinion after three days...

so i finally pony up $2500 hard earned smackers and get the 12 bolt. i pick the car up on monday night. drive it to work on tuesday and wednesday and thursday. thursday night, i jack it up and the pinion seal is leaking all over the place. the muffler is coated as well. so i called moser on friday and ask them to pay to get it fixed. after a big sigh, the rep offered to mail me a new pinion seal and told me to do the replacement myself; they won't cover any labor charges. i've heard too many horror stories of pinion seal replacements done wrong to attempt this myself. so now i will have to pay to get this fixed out of my own pocket, which is like adding insult to injury.
such horrible customer service!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

Wow, that really sucks! A $2500.00 rear and it leaks. That's almost acceptable because it's a racing part and nothing is perfect BUT if they won't make totally good on a BRAND NEW rear then that's just not right either. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
This is CLEARLY not the first time I've heard of incidents like this in reference to Moser and there 12 bolts. I wonder if their 9"s are just as bad. <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

that does suck but what are your other options. breaking 10 bolts(i've done in two) or a ford rearend fu-- ford. moser is a great rear and you can beat the hell out of them, just fix it and go. goodluck to ya.

Leaking pinion seal may be telling you
your pinion angle is not right. Too much
U-joint action and you get either excess
fore-aft or, worse, radial play.

Mine's also leaked since it was new. My cover gasket is seeping too. Heavy duty rear end but they could have taken care of the small things better in my opinion. Customer service just plain sucks also.

Hope mine doesn't leak when it comes in.
For the price these companies charge (Strange and Moser), you'd think they'd have QC down by now. Unfortunately I've heard bad about both, but what other choice is there really?

theblur98ss, is your cover the chrome one? I've heard a lot about the chrome ones being hard to make a seal on.

I just ordered my $2,500.00 Moser 12 bolt today, I hope this isn't an inherant problem with these rear ends. I've dealt with Moser in the past and I must say their customer service is at best lousy, very unfriendly people.

Hey I'm about to put in my second seal since I've had mine. Not too sure if the second time wasn't caused when I broke the factory torque arm and it threw the rear way out of kilter.

Moser did send me a second seal and told me this

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">We will ship one out. Make sure you are using some kind of sealant (hi-temp silicone or loctite) when you install the seal.</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I never have heard of using loctite when putting in a seal. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> the only good thing here is that the place that installed the first one is gonna do the second one as a warranty on the labor and it won't cost me anything.

My Moser leaked out the seal only 2 weeks after I got it. Got the seal replaced, and now it is leaking again after only about three months. These things suck at this, but at least it will hold up to the torque.

$2500 Moser 12 bolt = problems.
$2700 Strange 12 bolt = no problems.
Moser 9" = no problems.
Just my opinion based on our experience and plenty of horror stories.

DAMN. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
Maybe a Moser boycott is in order?
If everyone starts buying more Strange 12 bolts instead maybe their prices will drop a little bit. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I have a moser 9" and have had only one problem with it and it was my fault. My brake backing plates came loose and my axle came out of the car. But I should have checked them periodically to make sure they were tight. I have heard lots of stories about their 12-bolts leaking though. Bite the bullet and get the little added weight of the 9" and never worry.

I had a 9" in my GTA and the axel seals leaked something horrible. After numerous seals even installed two seals on each side it still leaked. It would sling axel lube all over my wheel well and the inside of my wheels. My car smelled like axel lube when it got warm ouside. They offered me nothing more than free seals. I will never buy any moser parts again.
