Right now I have the Lucas mineral based 85W-140. This stuff is as thick as jelly!! Before the winter I plan on changing to a Torco RGO mix of 1 qt. of 85W-140 & 1 qt. of 80W-90.

I have M1 75W90 synthetic in it right now but am thinking of going to the M1 75W140 for extra protection....What do you think?

Depends on what type of differential you have in there...since I run an Eaton in my Strange 12-bolt, I have to use a non-synthetic gear oil...otherwise, the clutch packs will be hating life and won't work right. If you still have a torsen type of differential, then you are fine using the synthetic, and I think the 140 weight would be a good step in the right direction. I wouldn't expect it to dramatically incrase your rear's life though if you are still on a 10-bolt...

^^^^ Yeah, what he said.
The heavier weight stuff can only help (especially in a synthetic) with the temps you see out thar in the baking southwest.

x2 on the Ford XL-3 additive. It's even less $$ than the Delco stuff! (But DAYUM is that some of the most putrid, pungent, persistant stink I've EVER had the displeasure to smell! )
It gets too cold here in the winter, so I mixed the RGO weights 1/2 80W-90, 1/2 85W-140. It would be cool if Torco or Schaeffers would come out with an "in between" weight in a mineral based gear oil (like Amsoil's synthetic 75W-110). This is what I was trying to accomplish with the mix.

You can, but most of those in the know will tell you don't. You MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT "need to" use synthetic gear oil, and like I said most will tell you to use a good, heavy mineral based gear oil in a 9". IF you feel you must use synthetic, make sure you use a heavier weight (75W-140) from Torco, Amsoil, Neo, etc. As far as I know, you do NOT need the friction modifier with the TrueTrac, but I would contact Eaton/Detroit and ask their techs what they suggest (and tell them ALL of your mods/applications/how you plan on using the car, etc.).

the thing is i i get a little bit of inner wheel hop on sharp slow turns, like leaving a parting spot, or after i come to a stop sign
if i turn right the right wheel hops a lil bit
if i turn left the left wheel hops a lil bit.

that normal for the truetrack. i was thinking it might have been from the type of fluid
