How to test pinion drag torque
After installing the pinion gear and pinion nut how do I test for this drag torque. Is it a matter of just putting a inch pound torque wrench on the pinion nut and watching how many inch pounds it take before the pinion gear starts turning?

Re: How to test pinion drag torque
You should measure the torque WHILE turning the pinion. The starting torque will probably be a little higher.

Bringing this one back to life again.
Been working on my rearend and have a question about this procedure and how others do it.
1st, it is damn near impossible to find a beam type torque wrench that reads in in-lbs any more. Where are guys getting these tools ?
2nd, if you're not using a beam type wrench, what are you using and how are you using it ?
Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

This is the one I use!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ance&n=3375251
Have to use 2 adapters to adapt from 1/4 inch drive to 1/2 inch but it works fine. Amazon was the only place I could locate one for sale at a reasonable price.
