Default SS4200 vs. PT4400

Which is quicker at the track? Which is better from a roll? And, how much of a difference?

Also, what STR is most people using on the TP4400? Everywhere I've seen it says it ranges from 2.2 to 2.7.

Default Re: SS4200 vs. PT4400

Nobody's run a SS4200 yet so the comparison would just be bench racing. I would expect a SS4200 to have a harder 60' time, but less mph in the traps and less shift extension vs. the awesome Pro Thruster 4400.

From a dead stop, ie 1/4 mile: Even
From a roll: PT4400 by a nice margin

The stall torque ratios for the Pro Thruster converters vary according to stall speed. The lower the stall, the lower the STR. A PT4000 will have a STR around 2.2 and a PT4600 will be closer to 2.7. The PT4400 is around 2.5.

I'm a little confused Patrick. I just got a PT4000 in and will be installing soon. Yank's website says the PT4000 is a 2.3 STR but I was told the converter I have is 2.86. I will be spraying anywhere from 75-125 wet shot of TNT and would prefer to have the 2.3 so I can spray sooner out of the hole.

What are your thoughts?

The STR is not as high as 2.86. If it was, it would feel a lot tighter than it is. The PT4000 is a loose feeling converter with a lower STR than you were told. That's a good thing and it should rock for you on a small to medium size nitrous shot. Go for it.

How big of a shot will the PT4000 handle with my TR224-112 cam with 6600-6700 shift points? Will 75-125 be fine?

It will physically take alot of N2O. The problem is it will stall higher than what would be best when running N2O. Your shift extension will be too high.

I used to run a 125 shot on a TP4600. It worked but I felt it was costing me at least 3 tenths as compared to running a tighter converter. The more N2O you run, the farther away from optimal you get with a too loose converter.

Would shortshifting the car with a spare N20 pcm be of any benefit wen using a 125 shot with this converter?

I just ordered a YPT4200 and I was told it will be a 2.86STR. That had better be correct! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

With a NA shift point of 6200 I'd try shifting at 5500-5700 on the juice with that converter, for example.
