Default Are 4.10's for me?

Trust me, I've read hundreds of threads on 4.10s (I have an M6) and their benefits. However I am not so sure if they are good on an otherwise stock (drivetrain) f body?

Right now I have mods in sig, and will soon have full bolt ons (I just need a UD pulley and LS6 intake.) I am then spending a couple G's for the full UMI/Strano/Koni suspension kit. After that, in a year or two, get a Nitrous set up (just a 100 shot) sine the car is my DD, and I can drive it DD with no extra power wear on it, like a Cam or FI would.

The reason I ask is, I've actually heard people saying their car was actually SLOWER after a 4.10 gear install. They say they felt like it was faster because if the torque feel, but times shower they got slower.

I ask because I want to know if they are right for me. I'll be stock other than the future N20. Do 4.10s do better for modded HP cars? I hear if not modded then the 4.10's won't do much after 2nd gear?

Just trying to see if they are right for me. Thanks. Maybe clear up how the benefit certain cars.

I have an 01 SS, the only mod so far is a lid and 4.10 gears. It is definatly a lot faster now than before the gears. I do not recommend Richmond gears because they whine, I get a headache if I drive my car more than 30 minutes. I'm probably going to go to a 3.73 when I get a new rearend, I havn't decided yet.

I'd get them if you are talking about an aftermarket rear end. They provide an advantage over stock gears all of the time. You'll definitely feel the difference. If you're in a stock rear end I'd wait. They work ok in some but break frequently--especially when you have traction.

I think you will be fine. I plan on getting 4:10s put in my rear soon also. I don't have money for a 9" (yet).

Thanks for he advice. I was just worried as I remember a few people saying that their car actually got slower with the gears... I was just wondering if it was a certain speed (like a roll) considering it is known to shave seconds off a 1.4 mile time. It confused me.

If you are going to use juice, 4;10's are not for you. Cammed cars they are great.

Sorry to hijack your thread . But arent 4.10s harder on a stock 10 bolt? Mine puts out decent power and I would worried that making it easier for the motor to spin the wheels would equal more strain on the already weak rear end. I want 4.10s becuase with my cam and clutch driving my car in traffic, launching is a fine line between stalling it and peeling out, she wants to be aggressive. 4.10s would definitly help there but wouldnt be worth it if they cause more strain on my 10 bolt.

Thanks

I have 4.10's. I think I'd do the 3.90's if I had it to do over again.

Yeah. I'm still wondering why 4.10's are good for cammed cars and not nitrous.

because when you take off in a cammed car you need to get in your power band quickle and with the stock 3.42's its sluggish. with 4.10's you get to the powerband alot faster. i think 3.73's are a good all around gear thats what im going with when i do my heads and cam in. with NOS the power is just right there when you press the button.

thats just me tho

I like the 3.73's. Good all around gear. 4.10's are better in some cases. Just depends on your tire diameter, rpm range, etc etc.

Its not so much that the 4.10s cant be used on a juiced car, but you may need a bigger tire. I am running 4.30s, and I will be fine on cam, but once I spray I will need a 28" tire to stay in 4th probably.

I have 4.10's in mine and mine definately didn't slow down. My time slips show that. The only thing is when your on it you really need to watch the tach, unless you really know your car, cause it will snap 6k really fast 1st and 2nd. All in all I love mine.

With enough power you could run out of gear in the 1/4 mile if using 4:10s and a 26" tire.
