never buy the first year or two of any new production model. it takes 2-3 years to get all the bugs out

It's fun to be the first on the block with the new toy, but it's a costly position. I waited until 2002 model for the 4th genCamaro and got an M6 SS fully loaded minus leather for 28k. If I'd been smarter, I'd have waited a few more years and picked up a barely used one for 15k.

not to be nitpicky... but

Z24, Z34, Z71....

I'd say its equally diluted as the SS moniker. But i do agree, i like seeing it called the Z28..

Dont forget about Z26 and Z66.

I would say the SS is more diluted and almost every chevrolet vehicle has an SS model. I can only think on 7 cars with Z model.

Chevrolet Cobalt
Chevrolet HHR
Chevrolet Camaro
Chevrolet Impala
Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Chevrolet Caprice
Chevrolet Lumina
Chevrolet Astra South America market
Chevrolet Meriva South America market - Brazil
Chevrolet Malibu/Malibu Maxx
Chevrolet Chevelle
Chevrolet Camaro
Chevrolet El Camino
Chevrolet Nova
Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Chevrolet 454 SS
Chevrolet S10
Chevrolet SSR
Chevrolet Silverado SS
Chevrolet Silverado Intimidator SS

in a later magazine they tested the gt500 vs. a hennessey camaro. they got a 12.4 out of the gt500 in that test. i think the two cars (z28/gt500) will be very equally matched power and weight wise, it all comes down to who gets better traction.

You can't really compare a 1/4 mile time from a different day, different conditions, different driver, and probably different location. Comparing the two cars on the same day with all the same conditions is a real comparison. They could have easily retested the Camaro and ended up getting 12.5.

For what the GT500 cost, the performance should be a hell of a lot better. You have to be a real Mustang fan to shell out that cash and get a GT500 over a Corvette.

I wish it wouldve been SS tops and Z/28 now but GM did it the other way around...IMO its stupid, all SS models that were the top dogs came with the L78/L72/L89 but noooooooooooooo GM had to make the SS now and call the Z the supercar...

I will have Z/28 IF I can get it with the A6,otherwise I am keeping my 06GTO
NO doubt this new Z is gonna be badass for sure...

IMO I do wish Pontiac was still around
It wouldve been nice to see this setup in a T/A too :o(

As far as a package though, the Z28 was top dog. It was almost role reversal to what it was with the 4th gens where the SS was top dog. Both performed well but for different styles of racing. The Z28 with it's SBC was a lightweight fast track car meant more for the Trans Am circuit. The SS was more the boulevard bruiser.

Totally agree but in 67-69 a RS/SS with all options was more than a Z/28
I just remember the SS being the,as u called the BLVD BRUISER..

Still love the Z/28 and would have NO problem owning one..Only thing that scares me is that the 1st GEN Z were only sticks so if GM stays true to the Z/28 heritage then I dont get one...My left left looks like hamurger so I can drive a stick anymore do to a asshat hitting me on my GXSR.....

That sucks. Sorry to hear that. My daily driver is an auto, and I always miss driving a stick.

I've always thought they should market the SS as the straight line muscle car and the Z28 as the road race setup. Offer a drag pack on the SS, and road race suspension upgrades for the Z28.

My wife saw a new Camaro badged with Z28 emblems on the back of a flatbed on I95 . She knoes what a big deal I've made of this car and even noted that it was Hugger Orange . I told her the program was axed and we'd be lucky to ever see one . I know anyone can put badges on a car but her telling me that and reading this thread has given me hope !

Don't expect the performance to buck ratio to be much higher with an LSA Camaro. It will be fairly well north of 40K for a car that will likely still only turn in mid 12's with most good drivers. Law of diminishing returns in effect. More and more HP on factory spec radials = less and less impressive average stock times (for the price you're paying). You've got to get proper shoes on these cars before you can even talk about their potential.

I agree with some posters in here: the Z28 should have been a weight reduced road course oriented model....with some ZR-1 brakes and light weight rims. They could have reasonably offered such a car for less than 40K.

Most likely the price is going to start under $40k. 1. Labor costs are down for GM. 2. It doesn't make sense to price it in Vette territory.
