On inside line as well:
http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...amaro-z28.html

If it's true and coming, it BETTER be lighter then the V6 5th gen....it will need to compete with the GT500.

With the heavier LSA, it will probably be around 3900, like the current GT500. The next GT500 stands to lose 100 lbs, which is pretty easy to overcome. I don't see the weight being an issue when compared to the next Gt500. The hp or weight wont be the issue here, both of these cars are traction limited. If the z28 can put the power down better, it will be faster than the GT500.

Its all about cost i think if its gonna beat the gt500 its gonna be up there in price maybe even or a little less, but we all know how easy it is to gain more power, either way if it doesnt match the gt 500 i still call it a win for gm, based on everything else..do we need to go in detail here?

Im mad at myself now for being one of the first ones to get an rs.ss

Thumbs up

Good news, could be a very cool (and potent) car considering that new CTS-Vs with the same LSA motor are running in the 10s with just bolt ons and they weigh over 4300 pounds.

While that motor is good for 556hp in the CTSv, there seems to be some debate as to whether GM will allow the Camaro to have that much power.
They should rate it at 290hp.

Just like the Z28s (and Boss 302s) from 1969.

Z28 is likely to go on-sale in late 2011 as a 2012 MY vehicle. I believe it will be released as an anniversary car (45th). Comparing a 2012 Z28 to a 2010 or 2011 GT500 is pointless, as it assumes Ford will make no changes to the GT500 between the 2011 and 2012 model years. 2011 is already 120lbs lighter than the 2010 and set to make 550HP.

Sorry guys, I don't see the engine combo happening. I remember GM making statements prior to the 2010's pricing being announced, that they needed to keep it affordable.

ZR1 - 105,000 (LS9)
CTS-v - 65,000 (dumbed down LS9 1.9L vs. 2.3L supercharger and wimpier internals)
Z28 - 40,000(guesstimate) (even more dumbed down LS9)???

My guess is they hot-cam the LS3 and give it 480 HP and a suspension package for a 5,000 bump over the SS.

I just don't see a dumbed down LS9 in the Camaro. It is the everyman's sports car and putting the superman's engine in it would drive up costs and deminish the rarity and "oohh I wish I could have it" of the LS9.

And the better overall power of the bigger, badder, better LSA can easily overcome a 200lb weight difference, just like the LS3 overcomes a 250-300 lb weight difference to run side by side to the new 5.0. I love how these Ford guys make it seem as if only Ford is allowed to bump an engines power. The LSA can be easily setup to compete with whatever Ford puts in the GT500.

I don't see why it would have to come out too pricey. Basically, just adding money for the engine, and a few new suspension pieces (well, and the appearance stuff). Most of this stuff is just borrowed from other cars in the lineup already, so I doubt it'll come in above $50,000.

You're just wrong. The LS3 wont make its way N/A with 480hp in the Camaro without beeing in the Vette first. Too much R&D to be sure it will be reliable. Anyway, no production car I see that, but good luck getting a 100Kmiles warranty with it..

LSA will make its way into the Camaro to compete the GT500. Either you like it or not. And its not as dumb engine, its a solid performer. Research the dyno section a bit.

It will be affordable because it has the chevy sign up front, and not the caddy crown. 2 different market.

And since when a factory 556hp engine is wimpy? What do you drive?

Well it's better than most ford guys comparing the 500 to the NA SS.

I'm all ready to test the NA GT against an SS myself.
