Default Headers & Stock Exhaust

Going to do full length headers soon bbk/jba...
Wondering how many of you guys still have the stock exhaust?
And if you guys agree that there sholdnt be a need to upgrade the exhaust yet?

I have the L99 and those of who have full length headers how does the afm sound, might be another month until I get a tune after the headers, just wanted to know if it was not a pain to hear everyday.

Headers, high flow cats + stock axleback?

I'm guessing the AFM will sound worse, but if you are turning it off in a tune at some point then it's tolerable for a while.

I just installed TSP Longtubes on my stock pipes with GMPP axle back and it sounds great. Mine is an Ls3 though so I don't know about AFM.

Well truthfully right now the afm doesnt even bother me like most ppl rant about. I can tell when it does engage though. Its just to quiet for a v8 imo. So I might get an axle back later on but thats just mostly sound not performance gains like headers.
I just dont want my camaro to sound like a truck with the headers+afm while i dont have a tune.
but i will just take a shot in the dark and go for it.
When I do get the headers I will post a video.

...more opinions/experience are welcome though

Maybe Phil will post in here, he had a good idea on another forum, which would be to have AFM turn on only above a certain speed like 60 or 70 mph. That way you can keep some of the fuel economy.

I might keep it off or just have it turn on above 75mph, which is clearly highway cruise control driving for me. I dislike it when it turns on at 20-40 mph so annoying.

LT's + hi flow cats + stock remainder of exhaust is pretty quiet at idle, has some tone to it driving, and is only loud at wot. works for older folks but a young man might want it "hey look at me loud."

I run the stock catback on catless 1 7/8 lts and before i deleted afm, it wasn't bad. Drone free, still is now even, but I am ready for a change, need a new sound.....
I swapped to an ls3 catback in favor of the less restrictive resonators and the sound was a bit deeper than the l99 exhaust.

You can make the settings in the tune like that but it won't work. You will need to apply to much throttle in 4 banger mode to make the car move through the air at that speed and it won't be active most of the time anyways.

I've tuned a TON of AFM cars and trucks and there is no smoking gun and no easy fix. The car has no power with it active and to continue accelerating at a reasonable pace or to maintain a reasonable speed it will have to kick back into 8 cyl mode. Even driving into a headwind will make it switch back to 8. If you force it to stay in 4 cyl mode by altering the TPS and vacuum settings it will only bog down and slowly decelerate until you get rear ended.

My car with longtubes + cats + stock remaining exhaust sounds like a louder C5 Z06 at WOT.. I like.

2 months later...
had some trouble and work + more work got in the way but last night I got them on. Took about 3 hours and everything fit like it should. Very happy with them.
:::
Only problems (not really) I had was my fault. I had my tires turned slightly and couldnt get the driver side exhaust manifold down and then had to push the car up the drive way into the garage cuz of light and also a quick run to the store for zip ties.
...
The sound of my car now with LT & no mufflers is bliss and the smell with no cats is tasteful lol .
Just driving a short ways back home I can feel the power on the pulls I made. The downshifts are angry and the up shifts sounds like its whipping a horse to giddy up!
Will be going to the track tomorrow and maybe a tune also. Im still new to the track so I wont be doing the times I should be, with almost bald tires. But will still have fun.
...
If your thinking about getting headers TSP is the way to go!
