According to our trainer from GM that was here today "there will be a Z28, but nothing is carved in stone"
basically he said if everything keeps going the way it is for the car we will get it. it would be blown and make 500+ H.P.! he says it would be a 2011 model year and be released fall of 2010. as long as they can cut cost to make it resonably priced then we'll get it. for sure something to look forward to! as far as which engine it will have.... don't know. maybe LSA maybe something new we'll wait and see. hopefully there will be more talk about it from GM. they know we want it!

An LSA Z28 would make sense because they already have the engine and they need that engine in more than one vehicle (CTS-V) to make it economically feasible. I say they make it as light as possible, put the LSA in it, and try to keep it around $40,000.

i think it is pretty safe to say that if they do make a Z-28, it will have one of these motors...
A. LS7 with 505hp
B. LSA with what, 585hp?
Like said above, it would make sense to use one of these performance engines because it saves costs and hits the performance mark. These engines are already developed and used in other platforms. I would imagine it is more likely to be the LSA, as the LS7 is handbuilt and more expensive. It is also the engine that the vette stud zo6 uses, so that would likely eliminate it.
Whether it will be made or not, i cant say. However, i would damn near garuantee that if it is produced, it will be powered by the LSA

Well for one it is a whole lot easier to HANDBUILD a few LS7 for the Corvette Z06 than to HANDBUILD large production runs for a Camaro. The price difference would scare most people away from a LS7 powered Z28, the LS3 is 6200 through GMPP where the LS7 is 14000, and more assembly line built LS3 reduce costs but the LS7 would just cost more. Adding up all the things that a LS7 Camaro would require, it would drive it to a price that GM would either have it priced so high that not many would sell or they would lose money to build it. Get over it there will not be a LS7 Camaro, just cause GM built one as a show car doesn't mean squat.
Besides with the government bailout, the days of performance will be dead soon enough. You don't honestly think that with econut left congress giving money to GM they wouldn't dictate what is "acceptable" products. When our nut job congress holds the purse strings they will not allow fun cars, we will be getting government approved Trabies like the east Germans got.

i didnt say there would be an ls7 camaro. lighten up. WECIV said "The LS7 will not be in production at this time. " i took that to mean they are stopping production of the ls7 motor all together. So i asked "why"
if they did do a Z-28, my money would be on the LSA motor.

Ok, so an LS7 costs 6k more than an LS3. So they could sell a basic z28 for 6k more than a 1SS (~36k). That would sell like hotcakes people and would be worth ramping up production! I also think the LSA would be a similar price difference and would definitely sell. I would like the boosted version more, but that's just me. All my performance cars have boost.

why not build a less exspensive mass produced LS7. No dry sump, no titanium rods, The LS7 cylinder heads are already developed.
another CHEAP option they could explore is
Throw a 4" crank in the LS3, Mild CNC job on the heads, And a slightly larger cam
4.070 BoreX4.00 stroke and they have 418ci VS the 376ci of the LS3
A 485-500HP 418CI 2011 Camaro Z28 would be an economical perfomance upgrade that would not cost them much at all,
It costs the same to make a 3.662 GM crank as it would to make a 4.0 GM crank
A little touch up job on the heads and cam shouldnt be much $$$ in R&D
Figure if the cost was 500-800 spread across 20,000 vehicles
They could add the Z28 Package for $3000-4000 and still net an additional profit of 2500-3000 over what they already make on a base SS
I know Id love a 33,000-35,000 485HP 418CI LS3.5 Camaro Z28

Yeah everybody says they would line up to buy one then GM builds it and just like the GTO nobody buys it. If we are lucky GM might have enough money to build a Z28, but I'm starting to have my doubts.

GM should do a bargain basement blowout... 600hp LS9 Z28's below 35K just to get the budget performance oriented back on the showroom floors.
What, I can dream!

I won't argue your point, but let's not lump the new Camaro in with the GTO... most people never cared for the styling, certainly not most of the Fbody crowd who the car was built for...
